Have a quick question(s)...again. Do Mallard hens return to where they nested? I guess what I'm asking is will she be back next year? Do they have more than one clutch a year? I cleared out the area where the nest was. Will that make a difference?

Ladies and gentlemen....we have ducklings!! Eleven counted. (I was off by a day for estimated hatch time. Had it calculated for tomorrow.....lol)
They are absolutely adorable.
Having a shot (or two) of Ginger Ale to celebrate......lol
Update from Duck central.....
We've Got babies, People!!
See only 3 so far......will keep you posted!!!!
Count just went up to 6! Seems like she's covering most of them. And trying to get up close now is definitely out of the question.
This is soooo cool!!! Ok. We are at 11 now!! Gotta...
All the eggs are covered with down. I don't think she really travels that far away. This morning, though, she's never been away that long. She flew in just as I was ending the post....lol There's a few more days left (if I can make it that long.....lol) Gonna need new carpet before this is all...
Duck central reporting in....
Ok. A little concerned this morning. She's been away from the nest for awhile now. Definitely not the norm. I've noticed that just before it rains, she'll leave for a little while, not longer than 1/2 an hour. There'e been a light rain this AM, but she hasn't...
There's a lake directly behind my property. The only problem I see with that is everyone has fences and gates on their property, including myself. I was wondering if I left the gates open (when they begin hatching, that is) would she take the shortest route to the lake through my yard? If she...
Thanks for the link, and yes, as you might have guessed, I've read it.....along with about 1/2 a dozen others.....lol. Based on the time frame, the hatch could be either this week or next.
(26 to 29 days sounds about right)
I think it'll be soon though. One site said the eggs hatch at night or...
Update:
Ducky is till doing the panting thing. It's not hot nor humid today....a nice 74. I did put the water out for her a few days ago, but she wouldn't go near it. Thankfully, it did rain, though, and that brought the temp down by 10 degrees. She left the nest for about 15 minutes after that...
She hardly ever leaves the nest. A few times, she flew to the lake in the back, but not for very long. I haven't seen her eat anything to be honest. She just changes her position on the nest, and keeps on sitting. She spreads her tail feathers when I get close now. She's never done that before...
Moved that tub about 5 different times.....lol. Splashed it so she could see where I put it. Splashed a little on the down. You do know ducks can give you "the look", right? ("Oh no you didn't just douse my down!!"...lol) I put it across from her at the base of my other flowerbed. Hope she gets...
Ok. Just did that. She did look at me strange, though......like, what are you doing?? I hope she knows there's water in it for her.....lol. I put a towel over the log......don't want her to get splinters...lol. Will keep you posted. And, thanks again for all your help! God bless!
