I got a message to check in! it’s been a long time since I’ve visited the site but I’m still enjoying my ducks (have since added in a goose) and currently have one duck sitting on eggs that we hope hatch!
Thank you so much.
I have moved her into a space away from the other ducks with food and water.
I ended up going out and getting something to clean her up with and an antibiotic as per a vets suggestion.
I’ll give this a shot and see if she gets better!
I will try the scrambled eggs and look...
Hi everyone,
I have a 5 month old peking duck who has just never been healthy her whole life.
She always always has had a messy, dirty bum and her back end has never looked fully developed - it’s like she never grew a tail.
She won’t preen herself, never has, but will take baths which helps a...
I’m not good with breed guessing on ducklings but what I can tell you is they are all stinkin’ cute!! 😍
My three were named by my kids and are Poppy (for the one we hatched), Lizabelle for the fluffy yellow, and Charlie for the black and yellow one. They are all runners :)
AND I’m off for a...
Well I'm glad it wasn't shrinkwrapped. I left it for 5 hours to sleep and came back and there was no breathing movement anymore. The ducklings beak was near the centre of the egg and facing down.
Who knows what happened really, just very disappointing!
I do one hatch a year and it just never...
@JoJoM they are SO cute!!
I’m happy you are having a good hatch!
Can I ask, out of curiosity, what temp and humidity you had during incubation and lockdown?
The last egg didn’t make it @MGG :(
The white membrane was pretty tight to it in places, I couldn’t even peel it away. is that shrink wrapping even though the membrane was white?
Just curious for next time.
The duckling wasn’t ready to come out though, I could still see some large veins and...
I did. I was worried about him and thought the rest of the eggs weren’t going to make it (fingers crossed so tightly this last one makes it). He only wanted someone to be right near him or hold him and would peep so loud and jump to try to get out of the brooder when we would put him back.
I...
oh, but also watch your humidity if you take this one out. You dont want it to get too low if others are pipped and trying to get out.
I'm sure just quickly getting the duckling out wont hurt much, but just wanted to say that just incase!
I left my first guy in the incubator overnight. He hatched around 3-4pm and I left him in to dry and regain some strength, he was very very tired and I didn't want him nodding off in the water dish. Then I took him out at about 7am this morning.
I also researched this and it said you can leave...
