so, these hens are slowly copying one another. Ones been broody appx 11-12 days, chicken 2 climbed in and wouldnt get out about five days ago, and today we have a hen pile. When i tried to shoo the top one she just pecked the crap out of my hand and squawked at me. Theyre really rude right now-...
Thank you. I will check tonight- I can never close their door until dark anyway because they like to hang out in the run during daylight hours. :) Just put new batteries in the headlamp too!
I'm starting to wonder if the new girls may have brought mites with them. At first I thought Lane Staley was molting, but he's looking a little red and some of the hens have a few bald patches either on their backs or necks- though the skin isn't red at the moment. Catching Lane is no problem...
Spring feels like never! We're having a series of nor'easters right now with another and more snow to arrive Tuesday. Spring in Maine usually is officially here May 1st, with it being safe to plant crops by Memorial Day.
Just an update: 10 eggs today for the first time since I brought these girls home! It’s been 0-5, usually 2-3.
I think Lane Staley is molting- he looks like a hot mess.
Thank you Wyorp Rock, They were vaccinated, but no- it wouldn't have mattered. :( The new girls are still doing well, but they are absolutely nuts compared to my previous girls.
