I wish my White Crested Black Polish a.k.a Phyllis Diller would not search out the tiniest bit of dripping water in the run, every single time it rains and proceed to dig in the resulting mud to look for goodies. She always ends up with a wet & muddy head, resulting in that 'just emerged from a...
Okay. Sounds good. I know it's warm in there. Although, I dont know how much warmer. I need to add another thermometer. When I go out to clean on any given cold day, I start in the run area, all bundled up. When I get to the coop area, I generally have to shed 1 layer of clothing. They have food...
Yeah..we actually hit 28° as well. I was up at 4am...worried about the birds. When I saw the temp at that time, I began to worry about them. Apparently tonight and tomorrow night will be slightly colder, according to our forecast.
I mentioned the ventilation gap size because I worried that maybe...
Alright, so I've read dozens of opinions over the last 24 hours here on BYC. I am in north central Florida on the west coast. The temps have been going down to 32° and slightly below for the last 48 hours and will continue to do so for the next couple days. I have 5 hens. They have a coop area...
Not sure why nuts are included on the do not feed list. I give mine shaved or crumbled almonds, walnuts and pecans on occasion. They love them and it's good protein especially when molting.
Wow! You're the second person that's said they were told perscription required, yet others have been able to get it. I just sent a message to them asking them to clarify what's going on with it. I'll reply back when I hear from them.
My hens wake when they hear me in their run, cleaning and filling water/feed buckets. Usually just before dawn. Which for us, in Florida, is currently around 6 a.m.
They all make their way to roost before just before dusk. Usually around 5:30 p.m.
Maybe it's because of the state you're in? Or maybe you had something else in your cart that was rx? I just know when I contacted them, I was informed it was considered OTC. See screenshot.
Yikes! That's just as bad as worrying about the wind. Yeah, I wouldn't trust that either. Well, hopefully the storms are done for the season and we'll all have a nice quiet winter! 🙏
Yeah...if we had any more than 5, I don't know what I'd do. That shelter in the photos is only 2.5 - 3 foot by 6 foot. It's a snug fit compared to what they're used too, but it works in an emergency. I also have my art studio on the other side of the house to set them up in. We definitely have...
We got damage from Helene too. 20 minutes from the west coast of Florida, not far from Cedar Key. A tree fell directly on my coop area. Right on the roost bars where 3 of our 5 hens sleep. Fortunately, I'd brought ours in our house to their temporary hurricane shelter, before the storm hit. Had...
I did soak but I didn't do it every single day. I felt like I was stressing them out way too much so I did it every other day, for as long as they would let me. Sometimes it was 20 minutes, sometimes only 10 but there were times they just weren't having any of it and I would only get in less...
