Treating what seems to be a recurring respiratory illness - possibly environmental?

I had a respiratory illness that was recurring. Eventually I took them to the university vet. I took the 3 sickest who kept getting it again although they never died, some would. He euthanised those 3 and I didn’t have a problem fr years after that.

    Respiratory Issues in Flock

Hey everyone, this sounds similar to the issue I am having. I am in South Africa though. I noticed the rattles yesterday in about 7 chickens and now I would say at least 15 are being isolated. One died last night which worries me. Do I cull the sickest? Or leave them to recover? Can you eat them...

    Chick with possible face cancer

@Cheekychook12 yes it definitely could be a mosquito. We have a problem with them here at the moment. Thank you for giving me some hope.

    Chick with possible face cancer

It seems to have developed shortly after she hatched and I don’t think its related to an injury.

    Chick with possible face cancer

Hi everyone, I have a chick that’s a few days old that doesn’t look very good. She had a lump on her nose and I thought it was mud and tried to clean it off but its flesh and she started bleeding. She also has a growth/injury in her eye. I’m treating with bactroban on the beak and Tobramycin 3mg...

Chick hatched with brown hairs failing to thrive

Hey - thank you so much. So yesterday I realized he must be visually impaired because when I went to give him some more Nutridrench I dipped his head in the water and he just drank and drank and drank even though he had water in his box. And then he started scratching the floor pecking for food...

Chick hatched with brown hairs failing to thrive

4 days ago I had a chick hatch with what appeared to be long brown hairs in addition to his yellow down. Day 2 I noticed he seemed to be unsteady on his feet but I just thought he needed some more time. Day 3 and he was screaming a lot but eventually seemed to settle down in the sun - he is with...

    DIY necropsy help (graphic images)

Hi, I just culled a very good hen because she had suspected ascites. Upon necropsy, it seems she was full of egg yolk. Laying internally. My gardener who helped me seems to think the thing that produces the eggs was bumpy. He also said that the heart was supposed to have that yellow fat on it...

Swollen vent, poopy bum, failing to thrive week old chick

Hey @eggsessive, I just wanted to give you an update, since you asked. The chick is doing very well. The vent still looks like it’s at the end of a pea but she doesn’t get pasty butt anymore. And she’s grown a lot. Still smaller than her brother but she doesn’t cry anymore. Here’s a picture...

Swollen vent, poopy bum, failing to thrive week old chick

Hey @eggsessive, I just wanted to thank you for your advice and give you an update. It's been a week and I feel like the little one is doing better. I check once in the morning and once in the evening that nothing is blocked and put on a little macadamia nut oil (its what I had on hand and did...

Swollen vent, poopy bum, failing to thrive week old chick

I have a one week old chick that is not doing well. She’s half the size of her brother. I haven’t been checking them because they have a mother hen. Last night I discovered a huge lump of poo on her bum. Cleaned it off with scissors and a warm soak. This morning the vent was dirty again. Cleaned...

    Dark red lump under wing

What on earth is that? I just don't want my chickens to suffer as much as they can before they die. I've tried to keep a few alive and they ended up suffering as much as they possibly could before they eventually died. So now I err on the side of caution.
