And this is my oddly mottled young rooster. He began/tried to crow since last week and is already mounting the hens...at 9 weeks 🤭 He's a buff-colored, defiantly columbian, partridge bases blue Andalusian tiles longboat - or so ;)
I still not sure if I keep him, he has long legs, not quite the...
My first monochrome hatch is getting six weeks old this week, I tried to put them out in the main coop, but they were to timide and egressed by one of the older hens, so I got them back in to grow a bit more, before confronting the harsh life of peck order coop. ;)
The pullets are definitely a...
So it's fairly save to say they are cute little pullets ;)
With time and more young chicks you'll able to tell earlier. I had around 30 hicks this year (my first year) and after every hatch I learned more how they develop. I can tell now by 3 weeks fairly sure which are cockerels. It's suer...
We are now complete... the last five chicks have hatched yesterday. I count now 28 heads in total 6 adults, 9 youngsters and 13 baby chicks.
8 in the "monochrome class" and 20 in the I the mottled section.
They have to make space in the main coop. :idunno 🤭
And now since I have decided who to...
I don't know about duck eggs, but chicken eggs might wobble a bit while the chicken is getting in position to hatch or zipping. so I think it's similar. Good luck!
I had to test several times and finished putting a bowl of water in the incubator.
With just the reservoir it dropped over night always down to 20-25%, with the bowl I can keep it around 40-50% depending how much water is in it and around time to hatch I add the water into the reservoir to passe...
Check out my thread in the signature. I'm monitoring my millefleur/porcelaine red, my blue/millefleur/columbian mottled and some black and blue mottled chicks closely while growing up and changing colors.
Update on the first half of surprise eggs:
5/5 successfully hatched, one solid black, one grayish, two yellow with blue (?) and one light yellow getting already white wings (so maybe splash..or golden neck)
The last five will arrive shortly, two already pipped! They are due for today.
My Japanese bantams, considerate developing slow, are distinguishable within 3-4 weeks, with combs definitely red and pronounced. Therefore, with caution, I'd say your's are hens. The photos are not well taken to see the combs really good.
For comparison... my 4 week bantams, you see the cockerel!
So are there black chicken which are not fully fibromelanistic, where just the skin is black , not the interior?
I don't know if they crossed yam cements or similaire into the bantams to get this effect or by classic selection of chicken with blacker skin.
Funny enough, I saw today the little...
I'm new to black colored breeding, so I hope you may have some answers for my questions.
I recently got a black faced black japanese bantam and a chocolate bantam hen. They were with, I think a black or chocolate or fibromelanotic rooster where they came from, so I collected the eggs of the...
