my hens tend to kick out a lot of the bedding when dropping there eggs. Ever so often this results in a cracked egg. I was thinking of maybe lining the bottom of the nest with some type of cushion below the bedding. I do have a bar (1 in high) in front of the nesting box to prevent it from...
i would like to at some point let them free range while i am outside. We live next to a park so there are dogs around and also a fox that likes to roam around. One worry i have is if i had to go in/out, how would i get them all to go back in the coop/run. I got them at 20 weeks so i am not sure...
not to worried about grass. But from a cleaning standpoint i would like to just move it to a new patch of grass instead of getting in there an cleaning it
finally finished my chicken tractor. Well the tractor part is still in the works, still trying to figure that part out. 4x4 coop, with a 4x12 run. My understanding is it should be good for my 4 barred rocks.
how much does your utility company charge per kWh ??
something seems off.
40 watts x 14 hours a day x 30 days = 16800 watts hour
16800/1000 = 16.8 Kwh
my rate is .13 cents per kWh. About 2 bucks a month to run that 40 watt bulb for 14 hours a day for 30 days.
Thanks,
It started out as a chicken tractor, but i am still working on the tractor part. The run separates from the coop, but i need some type of wheels to put on coop to move that easier.
finally part of the chicken club! 4 20wk old barred rocks. i surprisingly had no issues getting them use to the water nipples or to get in the coop. Eagerly awaiting my first egg.
are there any medications/products you recommend having on hand ? Getting into raising a small flock in a couple of week(starting with pullets) and would like to have necessities on hand.
