Just checked in from a few hours away from the app- he's looking great! Definetly more perky than the first pictures in the thread. I'm so glad he's doing well! The first few days are almost always the worst
Until you can get neosporin or anything else to put on it, I'd say flush every few hours. Better to keep doing what you're doing than take too many chances when the wound is so fresh. Awesome job on cleaning it and caring for him!
Poor guy :(
Definitely looks better than I expected though- and actually pretty similar to a wound one of my hens had a few years ago. She made it just fine with daily flushing and wound spray. As long as his brother isn't picking at him or making a mess, it should be okay to keep them...
It's awesome that he's letting you! Does it look like his crop (ball shaped organ at the bottom of the neck, top of the chest) is damaged at all? If not and he's still eating I think he may have good chances, it doesn't look as deep as the original pictures to me
if you can get some blucote, that's done wonders for my chickens with injuries before. It'll stain their feathers until they molt, but it's the best wound spray I've tried- it should be at tractor supply if you have access to one. It'll at the very least disinfect it. I saw someone else...
I'm honestly not sure of any I could call, we've had to do all self-vetting in the past. Thank you very much for the response though! I'll look into it again and see if there's any out of state we could call.
Adding that I cannot take her to a vet. There are no poultry vets in our area other than one three hours away, and they'll only see chickens for euthanizing. There's a second on the other side of the state, but as far as I know she only does local vetting.
To make it short, here's the poop.
I have absolutely no clue what that is, but my best guess is a cyst, or a yolk.
It's from my six month old cuckoo maran hen.
She was lethargic yesterday, head and tail down and not eating (as determined by a squishy, empty crop), so we moved her to a box...
Awesome, I'll have a look around the forums! Thank you! We just heard that another friend of ours got one too. Very interesting that everyone's getting them at the same time
I'm sure you can imagine my surprise when I found this tiny thing in with my hen's daily eggs!
I've got no idea who laid it, but it's definitely amusing to look at.
We've had soft shelled eggs with tubes coming off the top, soft shelled eggs, double yolkers- the works. But never an egg this...
One of mine is acting very similarly right now. She's an auracauna chicken, much younger (under a week), but she's been droopy, lethargic, not walking well and doesn't seem to want to eat or drink. Considering it's four of yours I think it's a good idea to keep them seperate! Mine took warm...
I found my sick chick belly up but still breathing in the corner of the box a few minutes ago. Managed to get her to drink some warm sugar water after a few minutes following advice on my last post here. Conditions have changed since then- she was better for most of the day, then got worse...
Thank you! I've been thinking about putting apple cider vinegar in their water too, I've heard it can really help with digestive health. She seems to have perked up a bit now, but still droopy. I don't want to change up their water too much in one day, but it'll definitely be on the list for...
Thank you! I've been considering wetting their food- I'll try that and the sugar water, we had them on vitamin/electrolyte water originally. She's been drinking whenever someone moves her to water, but I have yet to see her go to it on her own
Thank you for the response! I had them all on electrolyte vitamin water until this morning, and I'll try sugar water the next time I go out to check on them. Thankfully the other chicks haven't been avoiding her or pecking her.
We got most of them from a local seller who we've bought from...
