I'm fairly sure my hen had gapeworm in the end! After a week long dose of flubenvent (medicated feed), garlic in the water as well as fresh garlic and some fresh mint she seems fine and is looking much healthier now.

In England it is not allowed if the food has been taken indoors ( although just about everyone does) due to over zealous fear-mongering from the government regarding disease spread from food based cross contamination.
Mine enjoy pretty much all of our fruit and veg scraps, stale bread etc
One of mine went really pale a couple of days ago and looked quite subdued. She wasn't sneezing etc either. She's perked up a lot today and looks much redder in the face.
Perhaps coincidence, but all 4 laying hens have stopped laying for the last few days too. We were getting between 1 and 4...
That's a fantastic job! well done! Using recycled materials is a great way to go, in my opinion. I've just built my coop from old pallets and I wish I had read your article first as I'd have done quite a few things differently (and had a better result!)....

I think I read somewhere that if you empty the dried tea bag contents into a bowl and mix with sand/soil it's good for dust bathing in. Has anyone else seen or done this?
Ive read that there are various herbs and plants which are good for many different things, including mite control. I feed my hens Mint and lavender too.
I've found it works well, I just let them strip the pot (usually in about an hour) and take it out to recover. I've got about five pots on rotation, although they also have a pen to forage in that's full of green stuff and bugs for them so I will be saving the pots for when they've stripped the...
