Calamity struck - leaving a single hen, now what

Those are great questions. I would like to give Fitty, age 2.5 years a good quality of life for her remaing years in exchange for eggs for our 2-person household. 2-3 hens would be just right. So not havong to wait 6 months for chicks to start lauing would be nice.

Calamity struck - leaving a single hen, now what

I have since found out that my neighbor’s malamute escaped and showed up at home with a dead Juanito in her mouth. She has a history of being a chicken hunter. Our yard is fenced, but not dog-proof.

Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

That would be me - I became an accidental Back Yard Chicken Peep a year ago when I moved to a small rural subdivision outside if Medellin, Colombia with a flock of semi-feral free range hens that ranged the 9 lots in our subdivision. They have brought lots of joy and heartbreak and lots of...

    Meet Juanito, our rescue chick.

Six weeks ago Juanito was violently rejected by his mother. He was the only brown chick in a clutch of black babies. We rescued him and have been raising him in the house with in and out priviledges. There are two clutches of semi feral hens a d other chickens circulating our finca at the...
