I've heard don't feed onions to chickens, but how about a loaf of bread that had 2 tablespoons of dried onion flakes and 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder baked in? I'm sure they would love to peck a hanging loaf of hard french bread, but don't want to harm them. Any opinions?

Personal preferance is using a 375 H&H & follow the advice from New2TheCoop!
