Update. Getting some matter along with slightly thicker fluid and white, and a couple of undigested sunflower seeds. Though she's looking less perky now. I carried her into the coop and she's seetled down on the perch and gone to sleep.
I had taken her support off for a couple of hours, but...
James came to me with a crop the size of a gala melon two or three months ago. Vet could find no obvious reason for it, and put it down to the stress of rescue. Several months on and she's still wearing her support harness. However, she lays just fine and has acted normally up until this...
Just wanted to let folks know that I got chick feed on Saturday (farm shop only had one brand, Dodson & Horrell) and Carol's taken to it! I got home and let them out of the run today and she has a noticeably distended crop for the first time in weeks.
I'll keep supplementing her with an egg...
Oh is THAT why American drains are so huge and scary? Huh.
Teeny tiny electric fence? I'm kidding.
Well done everyone involved in the rescue. Great work!
@sumi I've just been looking at that on a site called Little Peckers. I'm going to see what the feed store has on Saturday, and hopefully buy a couple of different brands to try. If they don't have much I'll order from LP, and fork out for next day. That one's one the list!
I'm looking for something suitable to feed to three layers and one girl who isn't laying. She's been on layers feed (Allen & Page, bought direct so nice and fresh) but hasn't laid since late January. Hoped she'd start up again come spring, but she's developed ascites, so that's unlikely. She...
That was super detailed, thank you! I'm just sticking with worming the lot of them. I figure if one is wormy, they're all going to get wormy eventually. I don't have a huge plot of land to rotate them (and they're very good at sneaking into the wild bird area when I'm opening the door), so I do...
Quick bit of background. When I use Flubenvet (Flubendazole), I have always previously just bought the food premixed (Haygate, for UK folk). But it's more costly than buying a pot of 1% and mixing it myself, in the long run, so this time I bought a pot and mixed what I needed.
However, I got no...
You can tell if they've eaten enough by checking the crop at bed time. It should be firm, but not hard, and fill the palm of your hand quite well. In the morning it should be empty. If you check a few hours after bedtime it will feel smaller and harder, as some of the contents will have moved to...
Thanks folks. She's managed to find them a home at Kingsbury Children's Farm. Hopefully it's a good place for them and they'll be helped with integrating into the flock there.
Hi folks, been a while since I came by here. A friend of my sister has a new landlord (local council, instead of housing association) and they've given her 28 days to get rid of her two bantam(?) silkies (not seen them myself, just got a frantic call from the sister today). Just wondering if any...
I almost walked away in the first paragraph when it started talking about spoiling children. Old man yells at clouds territory, right there. But I pushed on, thinking it had so many high star reviews that there must be something of worth in there.
Alas, nothing but anecdotal "mine survive"...
@rebrascora oh, hah. I looked at the url and just assumed it was US due to the .com Neat. I'll have a look.
[EDIT]
This site is amazing. They even have bunny treats (not that I ever waste money on bunny treats; a cabbage does them just fine!). And Virkon. And timber! And I'm sorry but cargo...
