Do quail get aggressive during late spring and early summer?

Sometimes coturnix quail can turn into bullies for what seems like no reason at all. I would separate for a longer period of time, try a week, in a sectioned off area of your enclosure if possible. If not, somewhere within eyesight. Also check there's nothing else triggering the aggression...

    Quail brag

Gosh! That one almost looks like it's golden. Congrats on your first egg!

how many eggs should i get from 13 females daily?

That's not unusual if they've just started laying. It can take them a little while to get into the swing of things. Adding vitamins to their water and fresh greens sometimes seems to help. But as long as they have the correct food & a bowl of grit I wouldn't worry.

    Dying Coturnix Quails?

I've used a paintbrush to put a little food colouring on both chick and adult Coturnix without a problem. I'd imagine as long as its warm enough for them to dry then they'll be fine.

Sprouting and planting your own seed

I sprouted some red mustard for mine ... they decided they'd rather bathe in it

    Fixing chick ankle problems?

I had a similar problem not so long ago with a chick that had it's foot bent back and was walking on its ankle. I used a paperclip cut to size wrapped in 3mm transpore tape as a splint and it seemed to sort it out in just a day. I'd previously tried a pipe cleaner but that ended up being too...

    Quail brooder questions

This is my first batch of chicks so take what I say with a pinch of salt... I'm currently using a glass vivarium and have a small heat mat attached to the exterior wall. The chicks take turns between sleeping next to that and under the Titan brooder. I'd be wary of using a desert mat rather...

incubated my own eggs for the first time

@Elza I'm so sorry things didn't work out for you. I did read that having both feet curled can be a sign of either poor genetics or a lack of certain nutrients during development whereas a single foot is more likely to be a hatching injury. Hope you have better luck in the future. (Noticed...

incubated my own eggs for the first time

@Everlong, and whoever else might find this handy in the future Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of it's foot and I couldn't find any similar pictures on the net either. If you place the back of your hand flat against the floor with the forearm at a 90 degree angle that's what my chick's...

incubated my own eggs for the first time

Hi, I'm in a similar situation at the moment. 6 days ago I hatched out 5 chickens in my Brinsea Mini Advance. One of them has a bent back foot and was walking around on the joint. I didn't open the incubator during lockdown but I believe humidity may have dropped too low while they were...
