FOX attacks two hens who failed to get inside my Coop automatic chicken door.

Sorry you lost a couple birds. Check out the ADOR automatic chicken door. Only door I'm aware of designed from the ground up to actually be a chicken door, and not some hobbled together Rude Goldberg contraption. Rod is an electronics engineer and designed game cameras, and used his...

Cedar Tree Trunk Roost in Run??

Greetings! First timer here... I know cedar shavings are a no-no, but what about a Cedar Tree Trunk for jungle jim/roost in the run? Should I be concerned about the chicks peeling off the bark and eating it? Thanks in advance, Jon

    First Predator

Sorry about your chicks. Possibly a raccoon. A dog would probably have killed more or all of your chickens. But then raccoon's like to do that too. Head gone and chest eaten sounds like an owl... Bottom line is get your run Fort Knox proof before you go on vacation!

6 week chicks moving to coop

I just moved my six week old chicks out to the coop/run full time a few days ago. Depends on if your coop is predator proof yet.

New Coop and Run - need evaluation and suggestions!

Thanks for the comments! We'll add in a ladder for the roost bars - great idea!. The beam underneath is just temporary until they get a bit bigger. I plan to screen it off as well. We have some tarps we were thinking of using to cover part of the run. Based on comments here looks like we...

    Is Blackjack 57 safe?

I put down two coats - second coat went on very quick and also dried quick - probably 10 hours or so - and is much thicker. Temp was over 70 deg though. Planning on putting the chicks in next weekend. Thanks Jon

    Is Blackjack 57 safe?

Did anyone find any Blackjack 57 in less than 5 gallons? My local price for 5 gallons is $50 and they say that's good for 250 sq ft. I have a 6x8 coop I want to cover and 5 gallons is a bit of overkill. Any suggestions? Do you find yourself re-coating the floor yearly after major cleaning...

Quick Help... chicks got here a few hours ago!

Yep - mine did the same. They 'crash' when they nap and it looks like they are dead...no worries as long as they pop up and run around at other times. Can't help you as far as other foods...We're on our first batch, too. Good luck and keep us posted!
