All good here! My 4 ladies are happy with our nice Spring weather in Texas, laying 4 eggs almost every day 🙌🏼 I’m also hatching a dozen BYM eggs with our first grade classes again and they’re due to hatch this Wednesday 🥳
Hey all,
I have a problem hen and I don’t know what else to do about her except get rid of her at this point. She is a year old Crested Cream Legbar which generally are supposed to be friendly. She was friendly as a chick and teen and let me hold her and was my favorite. Fast forward to when...
Yes, my girl that had the most trouble with her crop would eat grass blades whole like that too. I made sure to keep the grass cut pretty short to help out with that. But good sign that your hen’s crop was soft this morning! Keep working on the miconozole and massaging the crop throughout the...
Unfortunately, Henrietta couldn’t get over her crop issues last summer, so I had to put her down. I had another hen this spring with the same stubborn sour crop but hers was due to internal laying. I’ve found that it’s usually linked to an underlying cause somewhere in their system. So if you...
Well everyone…we are at the 5 month mark and 🥁🥁🥁 my Maran is a GIRL! She laid her first tiny dark brown egg exactly on her 5 month bday. We named her Fatty B. 😆 She is still loud and bossy but pretty funny and lets me pet her sometimes now.
Good idea to treat at night! I would hate to take her wading pan away but I wonder if I could cool her off another way while I treat her feet? Last time though it took a good 3 weeks or so to fully heal and I wonder if that Vetwrap on her feet would make her too hot for summer?
We are in the middle of a massively awful heat wave in Texas. Temps are in the hundreds with heat index in the 115-120s. To help my girls, I put out shallow pans of cold water and my main hen, Pepper stands in it a lot during the day. She already has bumblefoot starting on both feet 😢 It’s not...
Hey y’all. I have one Australorp hen, 2 years old, that used to be at the bottom of the pecking order (1 of 3, then 2 until I had to put my other hen down a few weeks ago). I have one small flock of 3 pullets, 3 months old, that I’ve been trying to integrate with her for a month—did the side by...
Ok that makes me feel a lot better! Here are some more pics of my little Wednesday Addams 😆 I’m still trying out names for these chicks. The neck feathers appear pointy but when you look up close, they are rounded. The copper in the middle gives them that look. Also, the saddle feathers would be...
Ok. I’ll keep an Eagle eye on this one. So far just the copper has shown up in the neck this week. I was reading that as a chick, the Copper Marans cockerels will have copper show up on the shoulders (and sometimes wing tips). Fingers crossed 🤞🏼
Oh no really?? How late can they develop? It’s about 3 months now and I don’t see any saddle feathers forming.
Y’all 😭 I am legit heartbroken about this if it’s a super late cockerel. How late can they develop?
Here is my Cream Legbar right now. She is 11 weeks old and is the friendliest of the bunch. She likes to perch on my arm and chirp with me 😆 Please ignore my sad, grassless backyard as the chickens have turned it into an outfield 🫠
Hi y’all! Yes I have updated pics as we are now 11 weeks old 🙌🏼 Unless she is a hella late developing cockerel, I’m going to say she is still a she. She is definitely the boss of the 3, and has a lot to honk about now that their voices are changing from their chick peeps, haha. I’ll get better...
I opened her up and my poor sweet girl was FULL of egg yolks, y’all. There was nowhere for all of her internal laying to go 😭 It was all the way up her legs and up to her neck.
Is this common in higher production hens? She was a hatchery egg Australorp from
Cackle Hatchery. Hoping I don’t have...
