HomesteadNowhere Hatch-a-long! Set April 7, hatch April 28!

I locked down 13 Welsh and 7 CLB but I have no idea if the CLB developed as I couldn’t see. Only 8/13 Welsh and 4/7 CLB hatched. Not so great for me. I just set 36 chicken eggs last night hoping for a better outcome and trying a dry hatch.

HomesteadNowhere Hatch-a-long! Set April 7, hatch April 28!

I tried to candle my Ameraucana and CLB. All 9 Ameraucana are not developing at all. I’m wondering if the roo wasn’t doing his job or is shooting blanks. I have them separated with my other Ameraucana roo now and will try again in 2 weeks. My CLB eggs are too dark to see inside. Last year they...

HomesteadNowhere Hatch-a-long! Set April 7, hatch April 28!

I wonder why you have so many that don’t develop. What is your hen roo ratio? I usually have 2-3 out of 24. My ducks were all developing on day 7 and I’ll check my 16 (I think) chicken eggs tomorrow or Tuesday. They are in my classroom.

I always struggle to candle my olive eggs. Often I just leave them all in.

Show me your temporary in-coop box for mom and chicks

On my silkie coop I don’t worry at all and everyone is great to the chicks. In the standard size chicken coop I use a board to separate mama and babies for a week but I like the idea of a dog kennel in the run.

HomesteadNowhere Hatch-a-long! Set April 7, hatch April 28!

Well I candled my duck eggs on day 7; assuming I’d have duds. All 14 are growing! So I added my Ameraucana and CLB making it 31 eggs in my 22 egg NR 360. Oh well.

HomesteadNowhere Hatch-a-long! Set April 7, hatch April 28!

I’ll join! I have 4 hens sitting on only 14 eggs as they are 1st timers, but I think I’ll buy a new nesting box and give one some F1 olive eggers (Swedish flower x Ameraucana). The silkie I think will hatch on the 21st. I also set 14 Welsh harlequin on April 4 and adding 9 BBS Ameraucana and 9...

    HOTTEST BREEDS 2021

I am getting Swedish Flower hens this spring and I can't wait! I am also diversifying my true BBS Ameraucana stock and gray silkie stock. Otherwise I'm good this year. I may add a couple BCM hens for a little deeper color, but I'm not sure. I have toyed with the idea of adding a deathlayer as well.

ISO Breeder/Show Quality Grey Silkie Hatching Eggs?

Yes, only grey right now. I'd love other colors, but I only have 1 silkie pen and want to be able to sell pure color chicks.

What are your Spring 2021 hatching plans?

I have a broody silkie, but I don't want her to hatch babies. I live in Michigan. I am afraid they would die.

I know! Ugh! I am hoping someone has put in the work already in creating one!

I haven't. I went there, but it seemed to be an only social environment.

Looking for Frizzled Ameraucanas, Araucana, or CCL

Hi, I am looking to purchase frizzled blue egg gene hatching eggs or chicks in early spring. I do not want EEs/Americanas. I would like a true blue egg gene breed- either Ameraucana, Araucana, or CCL. Do you breed these or know someone that does? It is proving difficult to find. Thank you!
