    Chick hurt leg in incubator

I have a nurture right 360 and one of the eggs against the side hatched and the poor chick had their leg drop into a side slot. Just a freak incident. I tried to get something to pull the grates up, but the chick was fighting pretty hard and I don’t know how long. At the time, it wasn’t super...

    How long can eggs sit

I have ordered hatching eggs for a few years now and enjoy the process more than getting stressed and sometimes deceased day old chicks. So, I'm pretty aware of the process by now and the lower hatch rates and other pitfalls of ordering hatching eggs. Typically, when I order these eggs, they're...

Perosis in just one turkey in flock

As the title says, one of my 4 Narragansett has a deformed leg. I have them on turkey 28% protein food, so it is not malnutrition. I have 8 heritage turkeys in total and only one is showing this issue. Is there anything I can do - just massage? What is the best way to bandage this up? I am...

    Will My Eggs Hatch

Hello! After such bad experiences ordering live chicks, I decided to try hatching eggs. I ordered 1/2 doz Black Copper Marans and 1/2 dozen Lavender Amerauacanas from one seller and a rainbow mix from another seller. I was at the post office today to try and collect the rainbow eggs as there is...

Ideal Poultry - High Mortality/Replacement Policy

Hey, thanks for checking in. I was able to get to the store the day after the thread and get grit. But, we still lost significantly more in the week following this thread even with grit and removing the shavings. One of the poults that died was clearly 1/2 the size of the others. So, for some...

Ideal Poultry - High Mortality/Replacement Policy

Yes, they're in larger boxes and only one lamp. The temps recorded here are just at the hottest location. The Narragansett typically quietly pile in a non-high heat location and quietly sleep. So, there are good temp locations around the brooder box

Unfortunately, I am not knowledgable enough to know if it is or isn't. I felt around the crop and it felt a little squishy, but not full or empty?

Yes, a towel is a good idea. I can throw one down. I've already removed the pine shavings, but will add a towel now. I assume the 2 that are already showing signs of issues will probably not get better at this point?

Ideal Poultry - High Mortality/Replacement Policy

At this point, none. Just got 24" of snow last night. I can't even get to the store to grab anything either. I just double sifted their mash to ensure there wasn't anything larger in there. And they're now in an empty brooder box. So, we will see how this goes. I need to do this for all of the...

Do I just keep them in an empty brooder box then?

Also, I asked for grit at the farmers union and the guys said that if I have mash then I don't need grit.

Is there any way to makeshift grit? I am snowed in and cannot access a store any time soon.

Also, as noted, one cohort (Narragansett) are on the same bedding, same food, and same water and are having zero issues. So, I feel like this is an illness or genetic issue from the hatchery?

Tractor supply shaved pine - same as last year and I had no issue last year with them.
