    New to chickens in Alaska

    We live in the Matanuska Valley of Alaska, home of some of the worlds largest vegetables. We have 4 dogs, 5 cats, 2 miniature donkeys, and now 7 chickens, 4 buff orpingtons and 3 barred rock, oh yeah and 5 kids and 2 grandkids.     Ants!

    If you are concerned about using borax or pesticides, I have found that sprinkling grits on the ground closest to where you think the ant nest is will work. How this works is the ants eat the grits and bring more back to the nest, when the ants drink water the grits swell and BOOM, no more ants...
