Does your climate allow for snakes? The visual I’ve got from your description of the crime scene would fit a snake that was interrupted by your other birds. sorry for your lose.

    Double yolkers

My chicken recently laid a double Yolker. It got me to thinking “had this egg have been fertile would that have produced twins?”. Also why is it sometimes there is blood on the yolk of the egg, I don’t have a rooster so fertile eggs are not to blame?.

    Noisy Birds

Yeah this isn’t the egg song, it’s a flat out squawk , a gravelly sound. Some birds are just flat out noisy. It's common also for laying birds to sing the egg song after they lay, and others may join in. If the noise is a problem, rehome her.

    Automatic chicken coup doors

Would anyone have any suggestions on automatic doors for chicken coups. I can find them but all seem to be really expensive, is there something I’ve missed, I mean over $200 a unit. I’m wondering how any of you have avoided these astronomical costs?

I am new to raising chickens, like many I’ve researched over years on what is required to look after them. I’m currently looking to let them out the run and into the garden, this information has been very insightful and has given me much to think on. Thank you.

Feed in or out of the coup that is the question

I'm pretty much like you, but listen I've listened to the multiple advise on this subject without coming to a definitive answer apart from the advise of "what ever is best for me", I don't knock this advise by no means, in fact I welcome it as that is what I have been doing to be honest. I...

Feed in or out of the coup that is the question

I have 6 chickens, 3 black austrorp and 3 white leghorns. I’ve researched and feel I’m ahead of the curve on everything apart from, do I feed them in or out of the coup? Or do I do both. Information seems to be very conflicting, I see both points. Where should I focuse feed?
