Thanks for the link and info, I’ll try it out when they really start up again. This will be their second laying season so hopefully that’s old enough for them to calm the hell down 😂
I have the same thing, one will be laying and the other two start screaming. When the laying one is done she screams too and switches places with another one that needs to lay and they switch roles
So every morning from about April to September of last year, my chickens would do this loud horrible squawking sound every time one of them laid an egg. 5 minutes they would be super loud, and for 3 of them laying about 15 minutes a day. Because spring is coming up, is there any way I can make...
The dominant hen is a year and a half while the other two are 3 months younger. The coop is about 12 square feet while the run is 33 square feet, so about 4 and 11 square feet per bird. I don’t have pics of my setup at the moment, but they have a 3x11 foot run that has the last 4 feet covered by...
I have a RIR that gets her breast feathers picked out by my other two hens. I've increased the protein and calcium in their diet and the RIR's feathers still haven't grown back. I even bought a pecking block so the birds have something else to peck at and very little change. Its been months and...
Ah I just bought two more bags of 16%! I haven’t opened them yet so I’ll probably just exchange them for 20% bags. Thanks for the help!
And yea the head is where she’s pecked the most, never seen plucking though
I don’t think it’s plucking. She is at the bottom of the pecking order, but I’ve never seen any birds deliberately pluck her feathers. I’m not sure about lice/mites though. How would I check for that?
Last March my RIR started moulting a few feathers, with lots falling off and the tips of other feathers breaking off too. I assumed this was a molt because it started in the spring, but she still hasn’t grown new feathers. The only exposed skin now is a bit on her neck, and lots of fluffy...
Alright after a week and a half the toe is fine. I didn’t put a splint on it because it still looked straight, and never swelled up or anything. She’s all good now 👍
I’ll do it tomorrow morning, shes just about to go to bed so I don’t want to keep her up. Hopefully if it partially heals overnight the curved shape of the roost will help. Here’s a pic of the toe I managed to take, you can see the slight bend about 2/3 down the digit (middle toe, right foot)...
I’m wondering if it’s possible to make a splint for just the single toe? I’m guessing it’d be less intrusive on her walking. And yea, my little sister is done with the game now that this incident has happened 😅
This evening I brought one of my hens out of the coop for my little sister to play with. We sometimes play a game where we gently toss the bird, and once she lands she comes back for another toss (very sure the birds enjoy it). However today I tossed one hen a little too high, and she had a hard...
