They mainly eat eggs but will kill and eat a chicken if given the chance. I've never had one kill an adult standard size bird but I've lost chicks and juvenile birds to them.

An electric fence is great to have to help detour predators but it's just that, a detour. Feeding predators lead is the permanent solution and works better than anything!
Protect your chickens!
You can usually tell if a hen is laying by picking her up and between the end of the breast and the vent are two bones, if you can fit two fingers between them easily they are laying. This works on all breeds of poultry even bantams! Good luck!
