Is it okay that my latest hatch all hatched late day 19? They all seem to be happy healthy chicks, but I was surprised when they all started popping out!
I guess I should specify that I am in Northern Canada, NPIP is not a thing here. Though we work hard to maintain the health of our birds, and the standards of the true breeds.
Feed stores here only sell White and brown leghorns.
I sell my Easter Eggers for $5/chick and Olive eggers for...
I have a little flock of mostly BBS Ameraucana (my single Roo is BBS) with a couple BCM, Olive eggers and Faverolle in the mix.
I have been selling some true blue BBS Ameraucana eggs($3/egg), and the few Olive eggers I get from my BCM gals($2/egg) and Easter Eggers from my light brown layers...
Thankyou for your quick response. I shouldnt have jumped the gun but I was so excited to use my new incubator lol! Oh well.
What are your thoughts on all my pure looking ones. Can I safely assume they are pure because of their grey colouring? Are all Easter Egger chicks shades of chipmunk?
So I have a flock of mostly BBS Ameraucana. My single roo is a very handsome blue Am. but we had culled an olive egger rooster 2 weeks prior to me collecting the eggs I incubated.
Was I wrong in assuming two weeks was long enough to get his genes out of the mix?
All of my BBS eggs hatched...
Its late day 19 in my incubator (will turn over to day 20 late afternoon today) and I woke up to find two pips, one has quite the hole already and is cheeping away. Did I run the bator a little too hot? Or is it totally fine for them to be pipping on day 19?
When I did my first hatch, I pointed one of my cheap $35 indoor security cams in the window of the bator. It hooks up to my wifi and just plugs into the wall. It has an app for my phone that has the ability to send me movement alerts as a phone alert. Worked for me when they started hatching...
That thought put me on the same track as well.. I started thinking maybe I could put the older eggs in a little tupperware.. but there are 20 of them so I might need to cordone a part of the incubator off with a ltitle cardboard box or something.
I started a batch a while ago and they are now on day 12. I just had an egg order cancellation due to the cold weather and I don't want to waste some of the beautiful eggs I recently collected. Will there be any harm to the newer eggs come lockdown for the older ones?
Thankyou! and Yes I'm sure I will have lots of venting to do! I havent even started school yet, I start my bio upgrading next month. I'm super nervous for the next few years ahead!
