it fires a charge every 2 seconds or so.
so i have about 2 acres fenced off for the chickens, goats and sheep. We have a 15 mile charger connected to a live wire that runs the entire perimeter to keep predators out.
It's like fukashima voltage at the source but drops down to about 1kv towards the end of the fence line.
it still...
so i had to cull "patient zero" past weekend. She basically deteriorated over a course of 3 days where she could not even keep her wings closed. both legged splayed forward and twitching, too.
sad and unfortunate.
i truly hope this is the last. the rest of the flock are growing and doing fine.
we want to put her out wit the rest, but they're free ranging over 1/2 acre now so she'd be left to her own devices with a cat and a pig who's soul goal in life is to eat all of the chickens food. She wouldn't last too long.
her leg is totally splayed out front and foot curled all up.
Hi All - just an update.
She's still alert and eating, but she cannot walk now. her toes are curled in and her leg is splayed.
We're not sure what to do. we're having a hard time with this one.
yeah, im no dr. or vet, but i tend to call a spade a spade. The silkies and the other 2 hens raised with them have no contact with our main, large flock of older girls. Our yard chickens are almost a year old but they dont really bother with the silkies much. No others are showing any oddities...
so interesting turn of events. I had to cull one of our silkies yesterday. He, out of the blue fell over in the run and when trying to walk would wobble and just fall.
we isolated him, gave electrolytes, the whole 9... a few hours later his head was flipped back and he was sprawled out. he...
the silkies were raised with 3 pullets who will be full size chickens. we did already introduced them to our backyard block (3 barred rocks and 3 koshens). there obviously is a pecking order that has to be established.
Winnie, our ambassador and official backyard greeter wasted no time in...
i can call the hatchery and ask. the chicken was one of many from them, the others, despite being assholes are healthy and doing what they do.
i examined her leg and all, i didnt feel any breaks, etc, but i did wrapped it. it stayed on for a day or 2 until she wiggled out of it.
part of me...
One of our pullets somehow jacked up here leg about 6 weeks ago. she's been "patient zero" ever since. she pretty much didnt move for about 4 weeks. she ate/drank and is alert so we figured she needed some time to mend. Her right leg was protruding all the way in front of her when she would sit...
