I have 9 roosters. Four are in their own bachelor pad. The other 6 have basically set up pecking order and their own quarters. They also have set girls and don't tolerate the others trying to get in on their territory. It's often funny because my biggest brahmas are lower than my tiny...
Yeah, I was thinking of the general heat exchange. I have trouble with words, so I can't always express my thoughts correctly. I was thinking of creating a hoop houses type tunnel at the entrances, but other projects took priority this summer. Now the ground is too hard to work with. I mean...
That's exactly the kind of thing I was thinking of doing! I do have plenty of ventilation, so that isn't an issue. The entire area around the top is ventilated. Maybe they won't eat the shower curtain.
My pho
Ne is having trouble with links, so here is what I ordered (initially accidentally). https://www.vevor.com/welded-wire-fencing-c_10186/vevor-welded-wire-fence-chicken-rabbit-mesh-1-x1-16-gauge-mesh-24-x-50--p_010617717282
I swear my husband will kill me if I get anymore coops and runs! 🤣 I use these panels from Vevor https://www.vevor.com/plastic-roof-panels-c_13545/15-pack-polycarbonate-greenhouse-panels-2-x-4-x-0-24-roof-sheets-p_010928619310
They are by far the cheapest I've found. I tried just using the...
I live in the northeast US and have automatic doors on my coops and runs. I also have thermostats with IR heaters that run to keep the two above 10°F in the winter. Ive noticed that when the doors open the temp drops, which is not remotely surprising. I was wondering if anyone has used...
I've done this with metal runs (peaked roof versus round). We use plastic zip ties and they've lasted for years. Use the black ones as they are UV resistant. You can also use metal zip ties, but I've found no benefit over time. If you use cloth in the bottom, find a coated hardware cloth. I...
Ive ended up with, essentially, 5 coops over time, all open into the same area. Its fantastic. The birds choose where they want to sleep and the lower pecking order girls get to feel safe at night.
My birds will avoid the snow at all costs! Ive gradually expanded my coops and runs because as I've added birds, they separate into separate flocks. I have 64 birds right now and I have 20-25 that sleep in one run, ~10 that live in another one, 18 that live in a third, 4 roos in their own...
I LOVE pulled shut doors! Ive had them for more than 4byears now, and whenever I add a new coop/run this is the brand I go with. You need to oil one hinge point every 6 months, but Ive forgotten to do this for years and it still works well. The biggest issue I've had is ice/dirt getting on...
I think you may be right about the wire going in creating an issue with the water flow. If it's blocking the top of the exit hole, the vaccuum will never stop, so the water will keep going.
