4-6 year old hens have have poopy butt for months--should I be worried?

I can only find goat dewormer at my local stores, so maybe that’s why she uses that. It’s what I use. I’ve also used ivermectin drops on the back of the neck. This is really easy especially with a bunch of birds. I hit them at night on their roosts. I know that any of the worms can have...

Wobbly Hen-Injury or Mareks (or ?)

I’m so sorry! It’s immensely difficult losing your birds when you’ve tried so hard to keep them going. We’ve had a lot of that lately, too. There is an independent lab, RAL, where you can send samples, while the bird is alive, to test for various diseases. We’ve used them and found we have...

    Rat feed deterent

Right now I have the hardware cloth route. It’s a pain to set up, but in the one area, no rats are getting in. The other area, where I saw the rat, didn’t have a completed hardware cloth yet. I have it entirely wrapped. I also keep feed in metal bins. I haven’t used the treadle feeders yet...

Should I try and kill this bobcat?

I’m of the opinion that opinion that if you let your birds free range, you should expect predator losses. We have fishers, bobcat, bear, fox, coyote, raccoons, and a variety of hawks. Free ranging is like sitting a starving person in front of a buffet and then shooting them if they try to eat...

Bantam chicks straight run - any guesses?

I think 1 might be a Japanese black. At least they look like mine did. Super sweet rooster. The hen was kind of a jerk.

    Breed and sex help please!

I think 4 and 6 are your RIR and nh. I wouldn’t rule out pullet on either. Our NH, especially, had an early dark red comb. She was the boss, but still a hen. I’d guess 3 is your Easter egger. Although I don’t have a cinnamon queen, so I’m not sure about that as compared to your RIR and NH...

    Rat feed deterent

That is fair. It would be a limited case study. However, the deterrent for even a short time with alternative bait is beneficial at this point. I have bait and birth control set out, so I’m hoping to continue to minimize my rat population. I appreciate the research! Oddly, I have one feed...

4-6 year old hens have have poopy butt for months--should I be worried?

Only if there is a massive overload of worms. If you can, run a stool sample to see which worms you’re dealing with. There are almost always round worms, though, so if you can’t run a sample, treat them for those.

    Rat feed deterent

I just wanted to post that I finally found something that'll works for deterring rats from feed! Long story is that I have Marek's and avian leukosis in my flock. I'm using Chinese skullcap to treat them. Since it's a powder, a member here suggested that some folks use a sprayer and cement...

My chickens don't eat fresh vegetables

I'm not expert, but my first group of 6, 6 years ago, wouldn't touch apples. They would eat grass, bugs, frogs, snakes, insects, and mice when they were roaming. As i acquired new birds, there are some that love apples, my one bird left from the first group still won't touch them. The one...

    Illness/infection?

Thanks! He's easy enough to catch and handle. He and his brother have never come to blows before, but it's spring, so... I'm hoping the swelling goes down soon.

    Illness/infection?

I have an almost 4 year old japanese black rooster that I believe fought with his brother less than a week ago. They both look like they lost the fight! Well, i went in to lock everyone up today and he ended up looking bizarre. I'm assuming it's an infection post fight, but has anyone seen...
