I absolutely love your little flock! I started with 3 hens, two RIR and a Barred Rock! I lost one RIR to a hawk two years ago, but my Barred girl is 4 years old and still lays eggs daily! I’ve been thinking to shrink my flock to down less than 10, as having 30+ chickens can be a bit much at times.
My quail are currently 6 weeks old, and I had expected to get my coop finished before it snowed, but that unfortunately wasn’t the case. But anyway, these quail are standard coturnix quail I hatched myself. There were supposed to 10, but one had quit early on in incubation and the other died of...
A barred rock was the very first chicken breed I ever owned! I still have her, as she’s just turned 4! She lives with her sister, a RIR, who came from the same batch of chicks I bought.
yeah, there’s a little farm store in my town that orders from murray mucmurray and the chicks there have great temperaments. My friendliest birds come from them
Now, I’ve gotten a second batch of SS hens, and for some reason, these girls are the sweetest birds i’ve ever owned! I get larger, pinkish-brown eggs, so i’m wondering if I just got a bad batch?
I have a mixed flock, but I may switch to having two flocks. My first flock would be all Plymouth rocks, and the second either cochin bantams, booted bantams, or salmon faverolle bantams.
