Thanks @Bettyboop7499! They seem to be doing well. Punkin's blood work came back normal except for what you'd expect to see with Coccidosis (elevated Globulin, which the vet said could be due to a viral, parasitic or bacterial infection.) She's improved, as have all the girls. They're so...
My girls have been treated for Coccidiosis (for 2x/day for 5 days - last day Thursday, 7/25) and with a Jedd's wormer with 10% Oxfendazole and10% Praziquantel (2 days and then 21 days later, 2 more days.) And now I see this. I've checked all the poop charts I can find, but don't see anything...
Update two months later - sorry, a lot going on... Had to take Rocky the Rooster to the vet and say goodbye. Not only was he over breeding them, he broke his spur off in my foot (through rubber boots) and then once i thought I calmed him down, he got my thumb (through leather gloves) and nearly...
Thank you @Bettyboop7499. So far, so good. Fourth day of antibiotics and thankfully no other lash egg than the first one. Only one soft shell and one fairy egg (finally found out who's laying them - she decided she wanted to come in the house and lay her egg today), but little to no eggs from...
I agree @aart, he was honest, but too cold about it for my taste. Guess I'm too sensitive about the girls right now. He said he sent it for a culture, but I'll ask him when he calls about results how they did it. Question: he said to give probiotics as well, but didn't think to ask about when...
Update: Still only one or two eggs (out of 5) per day, some soft shell and fairy eggs. Then found a dreaded lash egg on Saturday. Took the hens to a vet Monday- was not very impressed with him at all - said he probably wouldn't know what was wrong with them until they died (!) and a necropsy...
Update at 2.5 weeks: still getting either no eggs or soft shells (have had maybe 4 good eggs in 17 days,) but the last two one of my gold sex link hens has now laid fairy eggs for two days in a row. Fresh water only (and plenty) and only layer 16% protein feed, in addition to their 12 plus...
Thanks @Criticalicious. I hope you're right. I like the eggs, but I'm more worried about their health. And since I'm building another coop (bigger) now, that means I'll know what it is if they stop laying when I move them. Fingers crossed, not everyone's back to laying eggs on day 5 of only...
Does it sound anything like this? Rocky has been doing this for at least a year now and always seems to find the places that give him the best acoustics! :)
You have quite the crowd. I bet it's fun to watch all of them interact. And a lot of work! My rooster is a pain in the a$$ right now too. I'm hoping he'll calm down as Spring ends. He even tries to attack me through a sliding glass door!
See @aart's recommendation in post #11 and #13. That's what I'm trying for the second day now. First day with no treats and water (yesterday) got two out of five eggs. Same result today, but one soft-shell. I'll keep going with just the fresh water and layer feed only for now.
