    Multiple Ganders

Thank you all for your replies! I can't get over your experience, @The goose girl - so funny!!! Well, I guess only time will tell what will happen here. I'll start working on separating the ganders and ducks at least and then just wait and see. Thanks again!

    Multiple Ganders

Thank you! What do you imagine our situation would be like without the duck? If the three ganders were the ONLY birds on the farm?

    Multiple Ganders

So, nature has played a trick on me... Last spring, we hatched our first goslings, a goose and two ganders. We were completely in love with them until their first mating season. From what I have read of others' experiences with ganders, one of ours was an absolute freak of nature. He was OVERLY...

    Combining Flocks

Hello! The short version of my problem: I have two groups of goslings (one group is slightly older) that won't play nice together. How do I facilitate their merging into one larger flock and stop the bigger ones from chasing off the "outsiders?" The longer version: I tried a staggered hatch...

    Protective Mother Goose

Thank you guys for all of the input. Our goose is still pretty untrusting of my daughter. I am keeping her separated for now and crossing my fingers. Next year, I think I will raise the goslings separately!

    Protective Mother Goose

Thank you both for your input! Yes, something did trigger it... my daughter was carrying a garden hoe one day when she stopped to love on one of the goslings. I think it really triggered mama goose. But there have been several aggressive incidents since that day - almost like she's holding a...

    Protective Mother Goose

Hello! Our year-old goose laid her first eggs this spring. We incubated the eggs inside and gave our goose the goslings when they were several days old. She immediately abandoned her nest and took to the babies. At first, all was well... my daughter and I spent a lot of time outside sitting...

    Weird Internal Pip

Thank you for your input. It was definitely a saddled air cell. I had never heard of this, but looked pictures up when I saw your reply. Sadly, the bird did not make it. :( And after reading your reply and doing some googling about saddled air cells, I think I know exactly what went wrong...

    Weird Internal Pip

Hello! I have a gosling due to hatch on Thursday. Everything has gone normally up until today... the air cell increased dramatically in size as expected, but at the point where I expected the bird to internally pip and the shadow of the beak to start showing up in the air cell, something I've...

    Goose eggs?

I wouldn't hold much hope... Incubating temperature for goose eggs needs to be around 99 degrees. If you want to keep trying, styrofoam would be a much better choice for good insulation.

How early can a Sebastopol be identified by feathers?

So hard to wait!!! Looking back at my pictures, though, I think you're very close to knowing. At 10.5 weeks, there was some pretty obvious curl starting already. Do you have any pictures of the gosling in question?

How early can a Sebastopol be identified by feathers?

I searched through my sebastopol gosling pictures from last year and came across a few as they first feathered out. Hope they can help you somehow! One shows their down color at 2 weeks of age. Another picture shows our grey saddleback feathering out at around 9 weeks of age (I wish the picture...
