Finding Eggs, Some Are Pus Filled

I looked at that earlier, but the symptoms do not match. The eggs look perfectly normal, and they are not laying anything but hard shell eggs. It's when I crack them open that it comes out...blah.....

Finding Eggs, Some Are Pus Filled

Okay, I've had this happening with my small flock of 10 birds. They are a mixture of 1 Golden Lace, 4 Rhode Island Reds and 5 cinnamon queens. So each lay slightly different colored eggs (very light brown, a salmon color and dark browns...the dark one comes from Betty my single Golden Lace)...

Our Duck Was Attacked, Not Using Legs

Thanks for the replies! His "flock" consists of him and his brother. That's it. I do have a type of child's play pen fencing that I can set up and put him in so he's back outside with some sun and shade. I can put him in there with his food and water, but he'll not be able to get into the...

Our Duck Was Attacked, Not Using Legs

Last night, one of our ducks, James was attacked by dog. I didn't see the attack, but had my niece run in with the duck in her arms to our house and plopped him in my doorway, then ran back out to get the dog. Inspecting James, looks like he lost some feathers, both wings have a small puncture...

    Egg Breaking Suddenly Stops

No, they insist on sleeping on a roost out in the run. Even during the winter. I use pine chips/shavings as their bedding, which I change quite a bit since the floor of the coop is solid.

Outside Chicken Came And Joined Our Flock

I'm down here in South Carolina. Winters it can get down in the 20's and teens at night. I didn't have her for the winter, but the rest of my hens pretty much ignored the hen house with the heat lamp I set up. Seems they preferred staying out at night in the cold! None of them died from it...

    Need Duck Advice

Oh hoo! If that is all there is to it, then I can certainly clip their wings!......errrrr......that is if I can get them to hold still for it! heheheh. So that would keep them from flying off. What about wandering off? How far would they range?

    Need Duck Advice

I'd really rather not have their wings clipped. To me it's the same as declawing cats, or clipping ears and tails of a dog. Just something that bothers me. I believe yes, she got them as ducklings, and that was something else I was thinking: that they most likely wouldn't survive on their own.

    Need Duck Advice

Ducks.....it had to be ducks! We have two Mallards that we adopted from a neighbor a few months ago, and I know next to nothing about ducks. I've been spending the last year and a half learning all I can about chickens, but ducks? Nope, don't know anything really. My neighbor had six Rhode...

Outside Chicken Came And Joined Our Flock

Just wanted to update you guys on this. We named the hen Little Bit. We ended up having to remove her from the run because the others tried to kill her. She was a bloody mess when I got to her, and I pretty much thought that was it for her. But she survived and is doing very well! She...

    Egg Breaking Suddenly Stops

So for a couple of months I've been having issues with my hens breaking open and eating the eggs that are laid. I've got six Rhode Island Reds and six Cinnamon Queens. I'd tried quite a few things: Filling the eggs with mustard, filling the eggs with dish soap, distraction toys like golf balls...

    Blood On Egg

A couple of days ago I noticed one of my hens is laying their egg with blood streaked on it. I've never seen this before. Unfortunately, I don't know which hen it is as they all lay their eggs in the same spot. Here is a picture of the egg. The blood washes right off of course, but I'm...

Outside Chicken Came And Joined Our Flock

All my hens right now don't brood. They drop their eggs, and that's it, they're done! Walk off and don't want anything to do with them. Which is good, I don't want chicks right now, just the eggs. My rooster on the other hand, he get's really annoyed with me when I get the eggs sometimes if...

Thanks for the help guys! We'll take precautions with her. Trying to figure out where she came from.

Outside Chicken Came And Joined Our Flock

Last week, as I was waking up with a cup of coffee, I looked out my door towards my chicken run and saw a chicken outside the run. At first I was like "Oh crud! Betty got out!" because at first glance it looked like my Golden Laced chicken Betty. But then I realized that it was smaller, tail...
