My broody girl has been in jail for 2 1/2 WEEKS. I pulled her out once. She had a terrible time running from Rooster and got back into jail herself. She continues to be ”puffy”, eats a little bit but is not moving around very much. I’m not sure what to do next - other than Pass her on to someone...
My 2 chicks were hopping up on things - the back rail of the BBQ, the top edge of a piece of plexiglass, etc. from probably 2 weeks. They sleep in the carport, and I had a nice "nest” for the mom and them on the floor that the seemed to like, but one eventing I couldn't find them, heard some...
Due to a recent hatch and infestation of mites, I now have them on me, the dog, and in the house!!
I bought the permethrin liquid and mad a spray bottle with 1 teaspoon to 1 quart. I have been cleaning the area where the chicks and mom are and spraying the shavings etc. But my question is...

Thanks for your concern re Hurricane Lane. We have managable wind and rain right here where I am. There is flooding on other parts of this Big Island, but it shouldn't effect us here.
Hatchlings doing well. It's heartwarming to watch mom teach them how to feed themselves. I don't think all are...
Thank you all for advice to get the hatchlings down! It was actually pretty easy. I had moved the nest box (with everybody in it) into the kidde pool. I went to get something, and when I came back and climbed up the ladder, the hen was up where the nest box had been previously, and the chicks...
I'm scared to move her! I don't want her to start flapping around with me while I'm up on a ladder. Also, hurricane coming maybe today or tonight. They might all be safer up there. I'd like to wait one more night....
Looks like all 9 eggs have hatched!
I ended up rigging a kidde pool right under the nest box. It's still about 9’. off the ground, but when they can jump over the side of the nest box they've hatched in, they will land on the nice shavings in the kidde pool where there is water and starter for...
Big Island Hawaii - I added to profile. Thanks.
I think I'm going to see if I can get the "kiddie pool” right under the box she's brooding in and put some cardboard walls around the nest box so the chicks would have to fall into the pool (with shavings) if they got out of the nest box. Hatch...
Thanks for the valuable information. I suspect you've tried moving the nest when the hen is out eating for her hour or so? I wonder if I move it incrementally if she will go back to it? When not broody she sleeps up in the Mango tree. I've climbed up a laddar to put "no pick” on her but she...
My hen is brooding in a nest box that is up in a lumber rack. Should I worry the chicks will fall to the ground and die, or do I have some time to move the box after they hatch? It's very nice none of the other chickens are bothering her where she is now. She was the one being pecked.
