How many hens you have will determine if they fight all the time. I believe the ratio is 8 hens to a rooster. I did have 2 rosters with one hen some time back, but sometime soon after they reached full maturity one began getting a little mean, and the hen was being a little overworked.
MY EE babies are 7 weeks old now. I have had some trouble getting pictures during the day so I waited til they bedded down for the night and lit the coop up.

Where do you feed them? The first batch I fed in the penned area outside the coop (small 12x12 yard for baby birds to be protected from hawks before they go out on the full field) The second time I because of what you describe here and the mess, fed them in the middle of the 3 acre area we...

I have an adult Barred Rock roo and hen on the property and have been adding to their number since predator issues took most of my flock. My rooster is fine with the 18 week old hens we added to the mix, however the hen is aggressive. It was bad the first week but I thought we had gotten past...
These are my first EE's, I bought them sexed but as we all know that only gives a bit better chance to have more hens. I 'think' I have 2 maybe 3 roos in there and 7 hens. Any guesses as what I actually have? I am finding them a bit harder to sex. They are 9 weeks old.
We have free range meat chickens and lost one to a hawk. I read that I could string fishing line between trees and make a web like pattern above our heads. Apparently it glistens in the sun and the birds can see something is there they might get hurt on. We did this and the hawk came back the...
