My ladies have just started laying over the last month (still waiting on 2). The pinkish brown eggs are from Sapphire gems. 2 have laid quite large eggs while the other (who was the first to start) lays smaller ones.
Thank you! I think Marilyn’s egg is in line with a USDA small. My hands are a little small but I think maybe some camera distortion is going on. It’s kind of nice having eggs in different sizes. You can choose what you need for the use. 😊
Here is Marilyn’s first egg. She still has a bigger comb than my other Easter eggers and more red on her face. She was definitely a tricky one, but gives hope to others pullets with more unusual characteristics.
I was really surprised. I was expecting lighter, but I love the color. One of her Sapphire Gem sisters starting squatting the other day so I am very excited to see what hers look like. 😀
I only have one laying so far. She started laying at exactly 16 weeks and has laid an egg every day. I think the others are getting close. These are Sapphire Gem eggs. I’m surprised at how dark they are. The prettiest terracotta color!
This morning I noticed dark wart-like lesions on Iris’ wattles. A quick Google made me wonder if it could be fowl pox because the mosquitos have been awful. I found a yellowish lesion on Violet. Everyone is acting happy and healthy. They just started laying eggs Wednesday.
We’re pretty confident she’s a pullet now. She’s grown into her comb and looks just like the other girls in feather type, size, and stance. No red comb, just pinkish yellow that turns slightly pinker when she gets worked up.
I’m not concerned about the other two. Penny has been easy from the start. Henrietta had a bit more of a comb at first but it looks quite small and barely pinkish right now. I guess I haven’t photographed Henrietta in awhile. She hasn’t changed much but has a nice fluffy beard. 😀
That’s a beauty too! I have two that were nearly identical as chicks and they are very different now. Looking forward to seeing what color their eggs are!
