One of my buff orpingtons started limping this morning. She’s favoring the leg and doesn’t want to put weight on it. We have gotten a lot of rain recently, and their coop was muddy for a while, but they got let out everyday to dry off, and the ground is now dry. Could it be Bumblefoot? Or just a...
The crumbles are new. Won them at a contest at our feed store.
We some stuff in there, like leaves, but I’ll try putting a few logs in there. I also have some alfalfa they might like.
I’ll try to free range them more as well since they do really like it.
It depends on the night. Sometimes they...
Our run is about 44 square feet, with two different houses on either side. It’s two store bought coops that we connected together, and, like
I said, we free range them when we can supervise them. There are only four birds in there.
Right now we’re only feeding a layer feed, and, on occasion...
For the past few week, one of my Buff Orpingtons has become quite the bully..
She plucked my Easter Egger’s butt bare, and has moved onto my other BO (though, she hasn’t pecked her as badly.)
We’ve given them toys, scratch, a flock block, expanded the coop, and let them free range supervised...
Sorry for the very late reply!
Yes, we have a pretty active dog, our Lab, but I wouldn’t trust him alone with the chickens. He likes to chase them and try to sniff their butts, then gets a little too excited when they run away
Snips was definitely the bird it went after, and I...
Thank you.. didn’t think the squirrel would be the culprit. Just don’t know how protective they get of their nests.
We’re not allowed to have roosters, unfortunately.. If we ever moved out of a neighborhood, I would be willing to get one, but, until then, that’s a no go.
Had my first big scare today.
Was upstairs working on something, and my dad was downstairs in his office. The girls were free ranging like usual, when all of a sudden we heard screaming and a big commotion. My dad threw open the door, and saw something fly over the fence. Luckily, all the girls...
Sorry! I totally missed your reply until now!
She's kind of independent, honestly. Like I said, she likes to hang around my EE, but she's started to venture out on her own. She's definitely the most skittish of all my chicks, but she's getting a little beaver every day.
I let them out of the...
Alright, today I'm back with more pictures!
And I think I'm still stumped, but leaning back toward pullet.. maybe? She's gotten a lot more social, in part because my dad spent a lot of time with them when we were gone (and he was the one who didn't even want these chickens!)
She's still...
Thanks for the help! Hopefully she'll turn out to be a girl.. maybe it's just a weird teenage phase? And yes, my city allows hens, but you cannot have any roosters.
She's always tended to be kind of skittish, but she has grown a little more bold recently. She is also pretty attached to my EE...
I don't know... I feel like she isn't growing in her feathers as fast as the others, and the fact she seems to have no tail whatsoever (unless that's a breed thing?). And, will these do? I'm out of town, so I had to get my dad to send these to me.
Thank you!
So, recently I've been beginning to have second thoughts on the gender of my Silver Laced Wyandotte... I live in a neighborhood and cannot have a rooster, so it'd be very bad if she was actually a he!
The feed store said she was sexed, but I know it's still not 100% accurate. The other three...
They're in a tote with only hardware cloth over the top, and they get out every other day. I use my local feed store's brand of pine shavings, which are the same type they use for their chicks. I change them every few days, but I will be vigilant for wet spots and mold.
I will separate the BOs...
