Urgent: post-amputation care, advice needed/I thought I would spend my Saturday doing this...

I have a suggestion For making a stump socket. Try Sugru to fashion a stump socket, and some wood to make a leg to even out her balance. Sugru is a polymer type glue thing that has strength but has some flex to it when set. open up a packet it moulds like Playdoh but then sets. Maybe use her...

    Cuckoo Marans

I culled all but one of the boys for meat at 16 weeks. I have to say I couldnt taste a difference in the meat like I was hoping for. I have a single rooster remaining and he is noisy enough, but not aggressive to me.

    Hello from southern Alberta!

Hi there, just seen this post, I am not a daily checker of the BYC forum. I too live in southern Alberta, south of Calgary, north of High River. Not a rancher though. But an acreage dweller. Welcome to the forum, it is a really useful source for help and advice in keeping chickens, and other...

    Cuckkoo Maran rooster selection.

My thoughts before my initial post was keep the top boy. None of the boys are extra fighty (yet) and the girls were out to the feeder this morning when I topped it up. I am looking forward to eggs again. Thankyou all for your replies so far.

    Cuckkoo Maran rooster selection.

I am not going for show breed standard. Ultimately I would like to keep a rooster for future chicks, either a natural brooding or incubator. This weekend my partner and I will eat some of the earlier cull roosters, and from that, work out whether it is worth the effort of letting the roosters...

    Cuckkoo Maran rooster selection.

I have 8 rooster and 6 hens from my batch of chicks from April. They are fast approaching 16 weeks age and I have culled two roosters already. They were cowering the coop all day. I plan to keep one rooster. I am unsure about my flock behaviour. There are two- three roosters that are out of the...

When to introduce oyster shell to chicks?

Overall, I guess I should go shopping for some small grit no added calcium. But only when I am ready to vary their diet from chick grower feed. Thankyou to everyone who has given advice, much appreciated.

When to introduce oyster shell to chicks?

I was thinking it as a gritty supplement. I have not seen chick grit for sale locally. So I am wondeirng what to do, or is it necessary to give grit to chicks at all?

When to introduce oyster shell to chicks?

I have 17 mixed sex chicks that are now 6 days old. I am feeding them chick starter from UFA. Do I need to add oyster shell to the brooder? And if so, the shell I have seems fairly large chonks. Should I grind it up a bit? many thanks Annie in Alberta, Canada.

    K&H Pet Products Thermo-Poultry 25 Watt Brooder?

I have just bought a Thermo Poultry brooder. It has a height adjustment so depending on the size of the chick I can move it up or down. I have a heatlamp too with a black heat bulb. I am hoping it will go well. Chicks not due until April 14 th.

Official BYC Poll: Do You Clip Your Chickens' Wings?

I clipped the wings of my first flock, just one side. They kept flying over the electirc netting fence. There were plenty of urban fox in the village (UK) I lived in back then. I clipped the wings again of my first Albertan flock, again, only after they had organized themselves and were...
