I'll try this too! I was more thinking that a novel food type that is only given periodically might be seen as a treat in itself, and if it is just a different layer feed there's no negatives to providing it as treats more often.
No, it was further in so I think it was ready to be laid but wasn't up against the vent. And the vent itself was soft when I felt around there. I was wondering if the vent looking like that might be from the relaxing of the muscles after she passed? I dont know
That does sound a bit like what I found in the necropsy. The chickens are currently getting Producers Pride 16% layer feed pellets with occasional access to grass. I usually give them a handful of scratch feed split between 6 hens when I get eggs every day, I didn't think that was too much? But...
added an edit to the post: did a very amateur necropsy on her, no redness in her GI tract or around her lungs/heart, no growths in her trachea, found an egg about ready to be laid, but no redness or blood found around it. There was a LOT of fat around her intestines/abdomen and I'm not sure how...
Hello, this morning I found one of my 1yr old hens, Puffin, dead and still warm. She was acting normal yesterday, eager to eat when I went in. I looked her over when I found her and could find no external injuries or redness near the vent. The area around her vent/between her legs was soft and...
This is Miss Henrietta! I ordered a silver laced wyandotte, which she very much is not, but my chicken keeping friends and I are having a hard time figuring out what she is. I received an easteregger in the same batch, so I was initially thinking they might have sent a duplicate, but she still...
Thanks! I'm mostly checking to see if I'm not overlooking anything obvious, or if people have recommendations on substrate, drainage, or leveling ideas. I grew up in a desert, so I'm used to planning things for heat , but now I'm in the PNW so we get quite a bit of rain for most of the year and...
Yeah, my backyard doesn't have much room so I was only planning on 3-4 smaller breeds, but the shed is about 64sq feet and I'm planning on making quite a few windows to get more air circulation and light. Hopefully once I get the yard fenced I'll be able to let them out for some supervised free...
Hello!
Starting this out by saying that I have just a bit of knowledge of building and power tools from growing up with my dad who built everything on our property, but he passed away before I was really old enough to actually learn from him and I don't really have anyone else in my life who...
Hi! I grew up with chickens my whole life but haven't been able to have them since I moved out for college almost 10 years ago. I was finally able to get my own place and am planning on converting the existing shed into a chicken coop but there's so much to learn about building a good one that...
