    Clucking vs Peeping

I've noticed that my Plymouth Rock, about 3-4 months old, only peeps ... no clucking like my SS's. Is this a normal trait with Plymouth Rocks?

Not sure if this is the place to post, but I am curious. My Plymouth Rock is about 4 months old and only peeps ... no cackling or clucking. Is this normal for this breed? Do thy ever cackle or cluck like other chickens?

    Post your FIRST EGG pics!

Yesterday's egg (the first) was found on top of a milk crate in the pen where the hens have been roosting. I was beginning to think they wouldn't go into the coop and use the nest box. I checked the coop and it appears that at least one has been going into the coop. This morning I found today's...

This is the first from one of our hens. I believe it is from one of the Speckled Sussex as she squated down when I entered the pen, rather than her and the others normal habit of moving away from me.

    Noisy hens....help!

My hens aren't loud for the most part, but when I go out into the yard and they see me they do get loud. It seems they want the attention so I will go over to the pen and talk to them. I usually give them a bit of starter or scratch and they settle down.

    Combs and Waddles

I just posted a photo on my profile of one of my RIRs(?). To date I see no comb or waddle, instead she has a lot of small feathers where I figure her waddle would be. I wonder if she is truly a RIR or is she a similar breed? I've looked at lots of photos of RIRs, but haven't found any that are...

I'm told this is a RIR. She is supposedly 4+ months old, but I see no comb or waddle. She has lots of feathers where the waddles would appear. Is she really a RIR?

Thank you. I will continue to watch them. I raised two hens and a rooster as a Boy Scout project several years ago and I'm excited to start up, again. In forty or so years one does forget, so the questions do arise when beginning anew. The two RIR's and a Plymouth Rock have become pets in a...
