How are the chicks doing that took an extra week to hatch? Did you do any troubleshooting on the incubator?

They'd be right on time for turkeys! Do you know if the temperature was normal or if the incubator could have malfunctioned and cooler than normal?

This project is being put on the back burner for now. It seems like I might be trying to create something that already exists. I got some Icelandics and so far like what I see. If they do well this summer, I will probably only keep them and cull the rest of the layers I currently have.

I noticed in the pic of them roosting that some are tucked under Lanky. Does he help take care of the chicks or just tolerate them?

Just watch out after a molt or in the spring breeding season. If mine don't fight before that, they for sure will then.

I had trouble when I set some gamefowl eggs and some regular layer breed eggs under the same broody. The layer breed chicks were slower than the gamefowl, so the broody just focused her care on the gamefowl. One by one the slower chicks disappeared until there was only gamefowl left.

If a few survive, I wonder what you'd end up with if you repeated it for several generations.
