Five day old with possible crop impactation

Can you explain this "full crop" thing? I've got my two older chicks (3-4 weeks) that have the same thing. Came on here trying to find what it could be. It's a hard bulge in the same spot, between the left upper breast and wing. I haven't noticed either change in size. Both chicks are...

    Atwoods chick ID

Thank you! Had really thought #1 was an EE. Maybe not? Here's a top shot of #5. With flash, that may make a differenc. She is definitely blonde, not so much white. another

    Finished My Coop

I like that. I've got a similar idea in mind so it's good to see it done.

***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Thank you both. Ones on sale at Atwoods... Pretty sure 1 is an EE, two are RIR, then there are two small black ones with just a hint of white/yellow on their belly. No idea what they are.

Hello from Broken Arrow. Pretty sure I said hi over a year ago when I joined, but I've been absent since. We have chicks now so I'm back.

wild hair = coop & chicks

Cool! I like it for now, definitely won't get rid of it when the big coop is built. Remembered my other question. I haven't looked closely, but how do you remove the little metal tag that's on their wing? Is it just clipped around some feathers?

wild hair = coop & chicks

The RIRs try to throw their weight around, but the others aren't taking it, especially the black ones. (BTW I discovered "black chicks" is not an appropriate search term when trying to ID chickens). Here's the setup we got; They're already checking out the ramp, to about halfway up. One...

wild hair = coop & chicks

Thanks for the replies all. Three year old is ok, I'm sure the next one she chooses will be "Brownie Bob" also. Yeah I don't care either if they are Ameracauna or EEs, my wife just wanted blue eggs. They do look like a chipmunk. Couple questions; No idea how old they are, the RIR are...

wild hair = coop & chicks

Started reading BYC about a year ago. Great plans in mind for a coop. But, working full time, running a side business, working part time in EMS & a volunteer firefighter, there is little to no time. Got a wild hair Sat & took our two youngest to Atwoods to "look". They had a sale on their...

    cement board flooring?

Doing a bunch of reading as I design our coop in my head. I'll likely raise the floor of the coop up 6-12" to keep it dry. I'm leaning towards the deep litter method. I see all kinds of flooring mentioned, but haven't seen cement board. Any reason why?

***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Thanks! Well, yeah, eventually. Still have to build the coop first. Before that is finishing up a few house projects. Still trying to figure what to get. My wife doesn't care as long as she gets some "Easter egg looking ones". We're in a city, quantity isn't limited by ordinance, just by...

    help with coop placement

Yes, I'd like to be able to walk into both the coop and the run. I like your reasoning for that as well. I suppose you're right about going in to the coop for egg gathering rather than opening up exterior nest doors. I also wasn't aware that the nests could be outside, that's something to...
