Bobwhite Chicks at 5-6 weeks suddenly dying: Starvation/Dehydration?

Thanks both of you. I found out that the chicks were younger than I thought, and needed more heat. The remaining chicks immediately perked up once they had the option to sunbath under a heatlamp. In the light its around 80-F. Two thirds of their brooder is shaded so they can cool off, but for...

    Bantam with Upper Respitory Infection?

Good afternoon everyone! I've been treating my 1 year old silkie with 1/2 cc of Tylan 50 for five days now, and was weaning her off and noticed that she started to show an occasional sneeze again. I had started the quarenteen/Tylan treatment because she had bubbly discharge in her eyes and was...

Bobwhite Chicks at 5-6 weeks suddenly dying: Starvation/Dehydration?

We have been brooding four bobwhite chicks with two bantam silkie chickens for a week now. Tonight as i went to check on them- i discovered one dead in thr middle of the brooder. I thought perhaps it had been trampled by the larger silkie chicks, and moved the quail to their own pen... Only for...

    Bobwhite Quartet: Guess My Age!

Last week we got a quartet of bobwhite chicks at the Maryland Poultry Swap. The sign said they were between 5-10 weeks then, but im curious if i can get a more accurate estimate for each. Age of juvie quail ks determined by their primary, feathers so have a look at theirs and have a go. RED...

    Raising quail to release?

Try reading the thread- it has your answer and explanation. In short, you can release them at maturity- but you'll probably just be feeding the local predators.

    Happy Summer from Maryland

Hello All! I've been visiting Backyardchickens for coop and husbandry tips for a while now, and now that I've three small hens of my own thought it time to join the banter. I've two silkies and a silkie/americauana mix, all about 1year old. They have been adjusting to life here for over a week...
