I hatched some Marraduna Basque Hens about a week ago. This batch of chicks is extremely prone to pasty butt. I have to bathe their little hineys daily to keep them poop free. I have been feeding them standard medicated chick feed. Do you have any idea what they should be eating? Because if...
This a great post, and very helpful to me. I have a sick Ancona Drake, weak, can't walk, but still eating and drinking. I started him on an antibacterial in his water, have been doing the baths, feeding him chick starter. He seems to be a little better. I'll get some charcoal and niacin...
I put my 3 guineas and one turkey in a pen together, and the guineas are picking on the turkey. the male guinea chases the turkey around and pulls her feathers out. I am going to have to separate them, I'm afraid. Or will it pass? I'm new to guineas and turkeys.
They look like Ancona to me. The spots can be anything from practically none to almost covered...but they are not uniform at all. And these ducks are randomly spotted like mine are, so I think you are correct.
I've been browsing previous posts. Is the white breast a dominant trait? it seems as if it is not desirable. Also, blue eyes? My ducks eyes seem black to me, not brown, but bear in mind I'm an amatuer and I only became an Ancona owner by accident. I think the bill and feet markings mine have...
I have a pair of Ancona's and the hen is still laying reliably. She is outperforming my chickens. The eggs have been non fertile lately. I bought some hatching eggs and today I have two freshly hatched ducklings and three more pipped and rocking. I hope to get a strong flock going, and I...
I found something that works well for my little flock. My hatchery had 5 gallon buckets with a cup waterer mounted toward the bottom. I just fill the bucket, and it's gravity fed. Much healthier. I was having problems with illness in my flock, and I think this has helped.
I have three Welsummer Pullets in my flock, and they chat incessantly...and they chew me out. If I am late with breakfast they will not go to the trough with everyone else but all stand there yelling at me....And they are not laying yet, they are about 22 weeks, and their combs are still...
Mystery solved-they aren't actually rumpless. They were pecking victims. Their new tailfeathers were pulled out by the flock before I saw them. So I started removing them a couple at a time. I now have 6 little roosters in a separate pen. I can tell they are roosters now becasue of their...
I've had this happen with my young pullets when I first put them in a coop. I wait until they are asleep- well after dark- and I fetch them off the ground and put them into the roosting box. I had to do it several nights in a row before they got it. When I tried to do it at dusk they just...
I have nine Americaunas that were hatched April 25th. So they are 4 mos old. They were straight run, but only one is clearly a boy. About half of my chickens are rumpless, and I just cannot tell which are boys. A couple of the rumpless ones have little curly single feathers coming out of...
