OK, I've read through the first couple pages of posts and didn't see this question, so please link if you know where it is, or answer if you know the answer...
(btw - We just hatched several baby guineas so this isn't an incubator question... my goal is to integrate new baby chicks into the...
I just posted a question asking for incubator recommendations, but of course a broody hen is the best incubator of them all... the only problem is that, out of my 8 hens, none of them have ever gone broody in the 3+ years we have had them. One 'Sophia LaHen' is our Orpington, which apparently...
Hi all - I did a quick scan through the forum and didn't see this specific question addressed - if it has been, can you please provide the link?
My hens are coming up on 4 years old, and our guinea flock is slowly dwindling (they refuse to roost in a safe coop at night, and we have a fox den...
Thanks for the info. I figured the coop would be a bit snuggly, but since they will only be roosting in it at night, I wasn't sure if it would really be an issue. I'll figure out an expansion for it.
I have 10 that are about 9 weeks old. They are stand-offish, and I haven't started free-ranging them yet (that will start this weekend), but when I step out on my deck and yell to them, they stop what they are doing and go to the edge of their coop run and look at me and start squawking, so I'm...
Mine are just turning 9 weeks old. They've been in their outdoor coop for a couple weeks (three maybe?) now. I have an automatic solar powered light that comes on in the coop at dusk, and as soon as it comes on, they all head up to roost for the evening. So! Now that I know they understand...
We have 9 chickens that have never been bothered by snakes - maybe because our rooster takes care of business? Regardless, I have had black snake problems ever since getting my guinea keets back in May. A large snake killed a 6-week old in my garage before we moved them out to their out door...
Hi all, I'm sure this question has been asked before, but the only info I can find is more related to introducing keets to chickens, so I apologize if I missed something. My chickens are in a different large enclosed area and do not free range, so there will not be any physical interaction...
I picked up some dried meal worms yesterday and tossed a pinch of them in with the babies... Like yours the first time... Not a lot of interest. A couple of them darted over to see what had just landed nearby, pecked a little bit aaaaaaaand that was about it.
I just moved mine out of the smaller brooder, that had newspaper in the bottom, into the larger one last weekend because they are flittering around trying to stretch their wings (at about 2.5 weeks old). I filled the bottom with pine shavings. I've seen them peck at the little pieces of pine...
Yeah neither our TSC or feed store offer the 28% Turkey starter for some reason. I found 24% gamebird starter in smaller plastic bags on the shelf, and then found some Dumore 24% chick starter. I also add that Nutri Drench stuff to their water to help with whatever it's supposed to help with.
I'm assuming Guineas do have a pecking order, but they are clearly more social than my chickens who, now three years old still get into it quite often... meanwhile, my little keets just hang out with each other, scratch around the brooder and share their food, climb on each other, sleep all over...
I have been feeding my roughly 3 week old Keets 24% gamebird crumble since day one (I can't find 28% anywhere, for the life of me, but they seem to be doing ok), and also adding that nutri drench stuff to their water. My question is, when can I start adding dried mealworms to their diet? I...
