Well my FBCM tend to have big combs from early age
These blue coppers are about 5 weeks ,the only male is at the right you can see already the copper at the neck ,their mother had a comb that made me think she was male until 3 months old.
So my answer is depends the line.
That information helps , thanks . Since I don't have any other Marans I will hatch more with the next broody and next year I will breed the darkest egg laying hens back to the father ,good thing that the original pair is not related.
I know the BBS genetics , just never have seen a splash upclose and googling splash marans returned images with, well more blue splashes on them, so I needed a conformation , thanks :) .
Hi all,
I have a Marans pair a 2 years old black copper rooster, and a hen I hatched from shiped eggs last year , i set 6 eggs under a broody bantam and these 5 hatched
Sorry for the poop  anyway they all look blue to me even the darker one in the front .
So this is the father
And...
I respectfully disagree ,red sex link roosters do not look like the hens ,they are white with a red patch on their shoulders , usually sex link hens mature faster than heritage breeds , for me only the buff orp is rooster
Hmmm is everyone sure ? I though barred rocks supposed to have yellow legs.
They look white to me at the photo , isn't that indicator of a possible cross ?
I would say Brahma cross , he has modified pea comb and feathered legs , also the body type is more close to Brahma than BCM ,also agree he is not black copper in color ,just has red leakage .
