Speckled Sussex? Gender? 7.5 weeks old

Thank you for the pictures. Yours looks a lot like mine

Adding new chickens (8 wks) to flock (also 8 wks)

Hello, thank you for your insight! Our coop is a converted 8*8 shed and the run is 10*8. We've been allowing them to free range during the day with the supervision of our dog. I would love to add a couple little ones but the things you've mentioned are what I'm afraid of. I wish I had just added...

Speckled Sussex? Gender? 7.5 weeks old

@TheOddOneOut @AgnesGray These were at around 6 weeks and when they were chicks. I'll have to post a new picture next week. Thanks to both of you!

These are partridge birds? Or Speckled Sussex?

Adding new chickens (8 wks) to flock (also 8 wks)

Hello, we bought 6 chicks (3 buff orpingtons, 2 Speckled sussexes, and 1 black Australorp) and they are now 8 weeks old. I have the opportunity to add a polish and silkie, both 9 weeks old. Do I need to introduce them gradually? Or since they are all young can you just add them in? Thank you!

Speckled Sussex? Gender? 7.5 weeks old

Interesting! Their personalities are not what I expected. I was expecting friendly inquisitive birds. These two are a bit aloof, stick to themselves away from the other birds (all brought home together), and are pretty skittish.

9 week old Buff Orpington, rooster or hen!?

These are my 8 week old Buff Orpingtons and I believe they are all girls. Going by that, I'd say yours looks like a roo.

7.5 week Australorp: Roo or Hen?

Here's another view. I'm hoping pullet, that would be great. Thanks!

Speckled Sussex? Gender? 7.5 weeks old

I got these two supposedly Speckled Sussex chicks. However, someone called the species into question due to the lack of speckling in the body. Do they look like Speckled Sussex? Can you tell if they are roos or pullets? Any insight is appreciated! Chick #1: Chick #2:

7.5 week Australorp: Roo or Hen?

I'm a chicken newbie and feel that my 7.5 week black Australorp is suspect for either being a dominant hen or a roo. However, I'm not sure what I'm looking for. Any insights?

Sand in the coop and run... How Much??

Hi yall. We are just completing our chicken coop and run. The coop is a "remodeled" 8x7 shed and the run is 8x10. We would like to use construction sand in the coop and part of the run. For those who use sand... How much did you need to buy? Would 1 cubic yard be enough? I have no clue! Thanks

    Black Australorp 5 weeks

I came because I was worried about my own 4 week old Black Australorp. She/he stands so erect and I kept reading about tail feathers "drooping." This thread has made me go back to thinking she's a pullet. I hope so!

What color should I paint my coop?

I really enjoy sage green as well (we have most of our living space painted this color) and was thinking of that for the coop! Thanks
