I gave her a nice warm soak and lubed up her vent with coconut oil (its all i had on hand). Now she has water and is in a quiet hen hospital pen in my basement. Will be going to TSC and plan to get nutridrench when I get feed.
Please tell me if this is submission or sick behavior. My mom found our best layer laying in the chicken yard and she didn’t come running when mom gave out mealworms I stead she crouch/crawled to her. She tried to get water and wouldnt stand so mom lifted her up where she could drink. She’s...
Thanks for the wonderful advice! My neighbor is building a coop and will be taking these babies in several weeks so overcrowding wont be an issue . I just wasnt sure what to do in the meantime! Thanks!
I have a hen who is sitting on 12 fertilized eggs. She is nesting next to the door in the corner of the coop that she shares with nine other hens. At what point should I move momma and new babies to a separate location? The coop is raised and the door is 3 1/2 feet off the ground so if a baby...
UPDATE: SHE DID IT!!! Our first two hen-hatched chicks made their debut yesterday. Nobody fell out of the door! Whew! I put food and water in the coop and closed the door so the other hens can’t get in and babies can’t fall out. Our run is secure so it’s ok that they couldn’t go in for the...
And as an update on baby duck, it was doing really well on Monday afternoon but wasn’t pooping often. I took her back to school with me Tuesday and she steadily declined during the day despite efforts to make sure she was eating and drinking properly. She passed away snuggling with me around...
I am in a rural school and a lot of our students have farm animals not that they bring them to school, but... I have brought my chicks a couple of times when I had one that wouldn’t eat or something. On Meme Day during Homecoming week, I was “Look at all those chickens” and brought my Polish...
I have a first time Broody. Giant Norma was found 4 days into sitting on a dozen eggs...we dont have a rooster! I got several fertile eggs from a friend and swapped them in the dark one night. At this point, she should have 10 days remaining to get to day 21. My two main questions are:
1- Do we...
Here's our solution. So far, no issues other than it looks like the Redneck Riviera! LOL! We had a labyrinth of twine like a maypole and then draped bird netting over the top. The entire thing is actually covered, but the netting on this side is black while the other side is green. The black...
Baby wasn't eating or drinking well last night (and hadn't pooped a lot) so it got to go on a duckie field trip with me to school today. :) She took a nap in my lap awhile ago, curled up to a hot water bottle ...
Yeah, I was expecting black and white. The parents I saw were typical magpie coloring. Who knows. Either way, it's a cutie! I'm going to go get a duckie buddy this afternoon. Is it ok that the buddy is a little older - like, by 2 weeks?
This is the first duckling I’ve ever had! I’ve got 9 laying hens and 9 more 3-7 week old chicks. I was given 3 Magpie duck eggs in a batch of fertile chicken eggs. One stopped developing before lockdown. I’d thought they were due to hatch last Thursday but this baby finally hatched tonight. I’m...
we were given a few duck eggs and the first just hatched. Is it normal for some type of mucus/yolk-type remnant to be trailing behind still? Do I need to intervene or help?
