Topic of the Week - Dogs and Chickens

I have 3 dogs. 1 chihuahua and 1 Catahoula mix & they are great with our chickens. They are both older dogs & just never seemed very interested in them and now they all eat treats together. My other cattle dog/poodle mix Gilly is only 2 and last year, play time turned into a vet visit with...

4 week old chicks - Outside? Weather?

So we made it through 2 nights in the coop and one thunderstorm. Everyone doing great. Highs in the mid 50s today with more possibility of more showers. Low tonight 48. I can see they are puffing themselves up and they have a huddle box, but do you think it's ok to leave them out and coop...

4 week old chicks - Outside? Weather?

First night in the coop. We put the brooder heater in there because it's getting into the 50s. Wish us luck. I'll be up listening for a long time.

4 week old chicks - Outside? Weather?

They are getting too big. Texas hill country weather. Rain, but temperate. Can they stay outside? Liking the run, and too cooped up in our temporary brooder. Without added heat for 3 days. Rejecting it in the brooder. Picture was at 3.5 weeks.

    Raw butt

I'm going through the same thing, but only one of mine has the raw butt. Not sure what is going on. Sprayed some Scarlex on it to prevent infection and gave the whole flock Corrid just in case. Checked for egg bound and didn't feel one. Mine isn't laying. I hope we find some answers! Could...

    Egg bound or vent gleet?

I don't know what else to do now. I've bathed her, examined vent (found nothing) , tried to give water (with corrid) and food (can't tell she's touched anything) and applied antifungal cream. Bottom looks worse today. All she is doing is sitting and looking labored and miserable. 2 year old...

    What are these little guys?

What do you think my babies are? Supposed to be pullets, and the breed listed, but now I'm not so sure. Can you give them a look? Thanks!
