Thank you!! I was thinking maybe part of lash egg too. Vet didnt mention it but I feel like she was trying not to speculate too much. I have tums on hand.. would that work?
Silkie was straining to poop the other day and she was basically clogged up with some infection or something yellowish/white and solid/rubbery. I was able to clear some of it in an epsom soak but the yellow hard part is stuck (see first pic). I’ve done several soaks and it is really stuck. I’m...
Nope! Still not laying but acting completely normal. I did a google search on RIRs and was surprised to see the following: “”Rhode Island Red hens typically lay eggs for 1–3 years, but some can lay eggs into their fourth or fifth year. “”
Thank you! I will definitely try some yogurt! Do you think the length of time with no laying is normal for the age (3.5 RIR)? This is my first flock (raised from chicks) and they were all laying pretty well through last winter minus if they were in a heavy molt.
Hi! This is my 3.5 RIR. She hasn’t laid probably since first week of September 2024 and previously a solid layer. It’s like her eggs sputtered out… they got a little smaller and more poor in quality and then stopped. I thought maybe stress, we had some girls leave the coop around that time and...
Does this look like vent gleet? The area doesn’t seem red but def yellowish gunk and odd smell. Hen is about 2.5 years. RIR. Always been an excellent layer hasn’t laid in over a month. Acting a bit lethargic the last two days (laying down a lot). I catch her going into the nesting box on...
Hi all- my CCLB was panting heavily before going to bed last night and while she was in the coop and even still this morning. Temps were about 75 at night and even cooler this morning. What could be wrong? I’m new to chickens so can’t tell if here face is abnormally pale. She didn’t lay...
How can I tell whether or not the silkie has a vaulted skull? Also - would it be possible to set up a separate coop for the silkie hen and bring in another 2 silkie hens (to give her a girl gang)? Or would it still be just as dangerous because I'd allow them to free range with the standards?
Hi everyone - I started with a mixed flock about 6 months ago. 2 RIRs, 1 CCLB, 3 silkies (2 ended up being roos). I am down to 2 silkies because I had to rehome one of the roosters so far due to his crowing in city limits. Anyway - the 2 RIRs started laying at the beginning of the month and my...
I’m curious cause she seems to be a bit of a loner/miss independent of the flock. She’s only 6 weeks but I’m just curious if maybe that’s a common trait for whatever she may be. Thanks!
Wow thank you! I'm confused why everyone says it takes so long to tell... they're only 4 1/2 weeks old and you all seem confident! Appreciate your help!!
