Well, she was out in the yard like normal this morning after I took the eggs from her... now she's sitting in the box again I dunno... I guess I'll just see what happens. Thinking the original eggs she was sitting on were *not* fertile is what got us in to this whole pickle in the first place so...
Well... we *would* have had a successful hatch, I believe, if any of the eggs has been fertile. My friend who supplied the supposedly fertile eggs told me after the fact "oh, I should've told you to only use the eggs on the left side of the carton... I found the others in our barn and they're...
Crud! Well, maybe I will just keep checking on her regularly and move the eggs if needed. So have you had a broody hatch eggs in a less-than-ideal place and if so did it go okay? If the chick(s) do hatch (and I intend to do everything in my power to see that that happens!) should I be concerned...
Day 13 and still broody! I think we are going to have to move her though. I'm a bit afraid to because of the possibility of breaking the broody "spell", but she keeps switching laying boxes. I don't believe this is due to immaturity, as someone commented earlier, but being bullied out of the box...
Well, I did end up putting several eggs that I hoped were fertile under her (although my friend told me after the fact a few of the eggs she gave me she found in her barn and they could be old while the others were fresh from the coop - I had already placed a few of the eggs under her and put...
That is a really good idea! Call me sentimental but I do feel for the broody hens... and I want them to be "fulfilled"! I just wish Tractor Supply et al had more exotic breeds. It's definitely worth going to look! And even if it's a plain ole 'boring' breed at least she'd have her babies
Thanks everyone! No, I do not have an incubator but I'm thinking of investing in one.
I'm not sure what to do now. I may wait a week and see what happens. She is still eating and drinking normally.
Our golden-laced polish hen has been broody for a week or two now. She was sitting in the favored laying box of the flock for several days and then suddenly the next time we checked was in another unused box. I told my husband her eggs probably weren't fertile as our more mature roo was killed...
Thank you so very much, everyone, for the replies! Ironically I finally heard them crowing again the morning after I made this post :D They're not frequent crowers - I got up early this morning and haven't heard them yet - and I'm kinda hoping they stay that way as we are *technically* in city...
Hello! I have two silkie roos, eight months old, who started crowing a couple months ago but have since completely quit. I rise early in the morning so I know they aren't crowing then at all (they were before). It's so strange. They are still eating and otherwise behaving normally and mating...
