    They looked very happy, which is why I just let them go. I've read in a few posts about bbq charcoal but nothing about regular coal. We burn coal in our furnace and dump the dust outside, at the edge of our yard.

    I live in Northeast, Pa so the temp varies from day to day. Most days its in the upper 20's/low 30s (which is normal for our winters). However, sometimes it can get into the negatives.

    One of our older Rhode Island reds went broody in early fall. We tried to break her of it but it didn't work. My dad ordered eggs for her to sit on, Pip and Squeak are the only 2 out of 12 that hatched in November!! Mama stayed with them til about week 8.
