Just wanted to revive this thread to see if anyone had any new hot weather coops they wanted to share. It's been a few years since the last post, and many years since the thread's inception, and many of the photos are no longer available. So who has a hot weather coop they want to share?
The ones in which you're not allowed to keep backyard chickens unless you live in a rural/ag zoned area. It's my understanding that laying hens aren't even allowed here in suburbia, let alone a rooster lol.
ETA My post is specifically regarding Pasco County Florida, not Florida in general.
I just recently moved back to Pasco County, FL from overseas, and I know there were people who "were working on" trying to get the laws changed, and I was curious if anyone knows anything.

Personally I say just go with the Cornish X. It's the meat everyone is used to, with the breast size we all want. They don't take long to grow out, and once you figure out how to work them, or you heed the advice of others who already have, you won't have the horror stories you read about them...
Thanks so much. They look beautiful. They aren't what I expected, so I'm pleasantly surprised. I'm not such a fan of splash in the B/B/S type, so I didn't have much hope this would be an attractive bird to me, but it was. That rooster is a handsome fella huh? lol
Thanks, I went to her FB and looked through the pics, but none were labeled Splash Wheaten only Wheaten or Blue Wheaten. I don't know why this particular bird is so darn elusive for me, but it is. LOL.
I left a message on her page asking if she'd show me what they look like. I guess we'll see...
ETA I am also immediately flanked by farm fields but prefer to drive it down the road just to not attract predators or even carrion eaters to my property.
I hear ya there!!! No sense in bringing them round your house to eat lol.
Lol that's funny. I'm not into wings, legs, or thighs. My husband eats them though so nothing goes to waste.
The snake idea is a good one. I don't know anyone with snakes, but when the time comes I sure could look for someone(s) with snakes, and let them have them. It's certainly better for...
Thanks :) and no about the sex links for meat. They'd be culled at hatch. I know that's not a very pretty aspect of breeding birds, but it is what it is. I don't want to feed more mouths than necessary for any longer than necessary. I like cornish cross for meat. They finish quicker, and I like...
Can someone please post a picture of an Adult Splash Wheaten? I've seen Wheaten, I've seen Blue Wheaten, but to my knowledge I haven't seen Splash, and I tried looking at google images, and the only thing clearly labeled as "Splash Wheaten" that I could find, was a pullet. I want to see them...
Well you're right about that lol It will still be a lot of chicks to grow out in the F2, but not nearly as many as I would have to grow out if I used a Marans for the F1 lol
So other than the lots of chicks problem lol, my logic is sound though right?
