    Week Old Chicks In Distress!

UPDATE : The black that has been weak and shaking when walking is still weak but she seems a little bit stronger. She is not out of the woods yet but is drinking and eating by herself. She shakily walks over, eats/drinks, and goes and lays down by the heat. I wonder if it has something to do...

    First attempt at mealworm farming

SUPER easy to mealworm farm. I find it easiest to do drawers. I know a lot of people that don’t separate their stages but I do. I find I get a better turn out because the beetles aren’t eating the larvae/eggs. I’ve got thousands of worms. I started last April so it’s almost been a year. The...

Also, here is a pic of a poop. Everyone’s looks just like this and I spent a good hour checking through all the poop 😂 it looks normal to me. Any one have their opinions on it? I will adjust anything as needed!

    Week Old Chicks In Distress!

she is still weak but alive! I have some rooster booster that seemed to get her through the night. Unfortunately we only have one car and that car goes with my husband to work while I’m at home. He does have the list of what I need though so he will be picking that up tonight on his way home...

    Week Old Chicks In Distress!

I check on the chicks at least four times a day and make sure no ones bands are getting stuck or picked at. I’ve talked to a few breeders and I’ve read the threads here and they prefer to mark this way instead of zip ties. I will keep watching bands and undo them to get larger as the chicks...

And I don’t have any photos of poop but I can get some tomorrow. I just cleaned the complete brooder today instead of spot cleaning again so they will be fresh ones lol.

Also, Do you have directions on how to administer the Vitamin B complex tablets? I would assume you would mix with water or food but unsure of dosage. And a HUGE thank you to everyone commenting! I’m completely and utterly grateful!

    Week Old Chicks In Distress!

Tha i checked that after looking at the picture and it’s not a scab. It’s a little piece of poop. I’ve been making sure to keep it as clean as I could in their brooder but chickens ya know 🤷‍♀️ I felt the leg and didn’t feel a slipped tendon. When I checked later in the night she/he is still...

    Week Old Chicks In Distress!

thank you so much! I do have chicken vitamins with the vitamin B that I will try. I will keep in mind the brooder temps. I’ve never had so many issues with raising chicks before. 😂 maybe it just has to do with the fact that I was raising standard fowl before and it was just easier. I’ve also...

    Week Old Chicks In Distress!

Also - since lowering heat I’ve had them all bunch together under the heat. It has been cold in the 20°’s here during the day and colder at night and with heat even at 90° on one side and 84° on the other they are acting cold. I’m worried about the possibility of crushing one with this...

    Week Old Chicks In Distress!

I live in northern Indiana. Right next to the Michigan border. The weather was in the high 40°’s when I got them, which is unusual here. Brooder was warmed at 100° when I got them but I made sure not to warm them too fast and shock them. Warm water was used to get their internal temp up slowly...

    Week Old Chicks In Distress!

I will lower temp. I’m used to larger breeds and from what I was told with bantams is that they’re more sensitive and need a warmer brooder by 5° so I’ve tried to give them a range. Their brooder is quite large and the middle ranges around 70°ish. I did stop the electrolytes after 3 days but...
