Woops sorry that was a spelling mistake it was ment to be size, sorry for that confusion, im not the best at typing my fingers seem to go all over the show
No need to worry, chicks can hatch from day 18-23 bust most commonly day 21, it all depends on the sixe of the egg, temp and humidity
I hatched a few batches of chicks (under a hen) on day 18, no problems what so ever
Hope they are the cutest wee things ever, and hopefully all girls :)
Hello, it does sound like moulting, my hens have all just come in to moult and it is Autum (fall) where i live
and hen do stop for a short time when moulting then soon come back in lay (generally after winter but hopefully before) and 1 1/2 years is a perfectly normal age to stop,
try putting the chick in a warm bath of water, I have never tried this myself and not sure if it will work, but have read a few times that this makes them poo so its worth giving a try?????
I hatched some pekin duck eggs not long ago, they hatched 4 DAYS EARLY!!!! was a bit of a shock, but dont worry to soon , I have had chicks that hatched 3 days late so hopefully there is still time
good luck :)
You can use any breed you want to :)
although if your wanting to hatch chicks to lay when older i suggest getting a breed of rooster that has good laying abilities
Oh im sorry to hear that, :(
this may sound horrible but you could always get some more, this way you will feel better again, maby even buy a mum and her chicks or some chicks and raise them in a brooder. Think about the positives like you can get to choose lots of exciting breeds, clean out...
i have one hen my roo didn't mate with becuase i tried to hatch from her but each time the eggs would be infertile, I moved her in with a differant roo and have hatched chicks from her since :)

Barnevelders are so easy to sex aswell, unless its just mine, but there combs and wattle grow more than the girls at about 3 weeks! it was so easy , and at 6 weeks my two chick roos...
